British parliament votes in favor of f**king over students
from the BBC:

The coalition government has won the vote to raise tuition fees in England to £9,000 per year - as violent protests take place in Westminster.

Three ministerial aides have resigned over the issue - as the fee rise passed by a majority of 21 votes.

Scotland Yard says six police officers have been hurt in clashes between police and students.

Protesters who had forced their way into Parliament Square pressed against police lines and threw missiles. .........(more)

2. So it did, and a big ugh. But by a smaller majority than anticipated.

Which may (ever the optimist!) mean that the government and coalition may not survive for a full 5 years.

And this, I am sure, is just the beginning of student rebellion.

And the higher education teachers' union, UCU (my union) which for many years had been about as effective and active as a wet sponge, has SERIOUSLY been getting off its behind to support the students, organizing rallies, petitions and pressure on MPs.

So some hope.

But still Bad News overall, and will mean that future students are likely to include more rich thickos - members of a Tory government for the 2030s? - while more intelligent but poorer young people miss out, as will their country.

3. PS - I do have such a lovely County Council leader!

Here shown being utterly vile about young protesters. 'Oiks'; 'rabble'; 'a dangerous infection' - you'd think he was a bad TV caricature of a Tory, if you didn't know differently.
