Poll question: Is cheap oil worth violating the sovereignty of foreign nations? |
|
Are you okay with the influence Shell wields over the Nigerian gov't?
If not, would having to pay $7 a gallon for gas change your mind?

5. Gotta look at the bigger picture |

You pay at least that much for gas whether directly or not. How much do you pay for the military and non-military presence necessary to maintain the current regime? Add an even measure of your share of that to each gallon of gasoline and what is the true price? And as usual, the perverted incentive exists that since your share of overhead is fixed, the more gas you use the cheaper you actually get it. And the organization that uses the most fuel of anyone on the planet? The US military.
As usual, the 'solution' inflames the problem. I think we can solve our military requirements without having a dominating global military empire and think that's a valid subject for debate.
