Feeling of deep foreboding for our nation
Seems like each day our nation is being hijacked, and am sensing something bigger coming our way. Our Congress has hijacked the peoples' rights, are undercutting and/or destroying the economy, our wallets, First Responders, and so much more.

I have begun to feel powerless and hopeless in any kind of recovery for our economy, trust in the man I helped elect to POTUS, and belief that there is really anyone in governmental power that can turn things around. :(

3. That is intuitively valid.
So, how long do you need to feel that way before it frees you from the ideas and beliefs that may be outdated?

What is falling apart is a paradigm, be that by chance or with intention, or a combination of the two.

All the King's horses and all the King's men are out there, working overtime on the omelet.

5. Nice post. I was teaching
that to my 4 year old Granddaughter last night. Welcome to DU. I'm glad you said working overtime on the omelet, I don't want them to put the egg back together.

7. Good question-one have been asking myself for some time
The model of our government no longer exists as I learned from my early years, mid 20th C. But, what to do as a citizen? I am one of the unemployed, denied my benefits because someone lied and said I quit, (am in my last round of appeals on this), am surviving by the skin of my teeth and basically not eating or driving as much as possible so as not to spend money needed to keep a roof over my head. I know I am not alone in all this, but with little resource, what recourse can be done? No one that has any power seems to be listening.

12. Similar position here ...
Maybe even worse. I will spare you the details.

What I am relying on most is tapping into and re-discovering my inner resources. There are many times where I've been through difficult situations and made it through. How I felt and my behavior can be a resource, if you see what I mean. There are many.

I do know that, if one repeats the situation over and over and gets stuck in a loop, no matter how dire the situation is, it has no useful value other than to hopefully inspire a change and flexibility. It can be easier than it may seem to be.

Meanwhile, adaptation to abject poverty is what some have to deal with in real-time. Do your best and understand that many of us are in this, now. Remember your great states and feelings and victories over adversity ... project them forward as a better way to survive, when you can.

13. Almost Don Juan/Castaneda-like in your response
Can totally appreciate the path with heart. :)

A Path With Heart by Carlos Castaneda

You must always keep in mind that a path is only a path. Each path is only one of a million paths. If you feel that you must now follow it, you need not stay with it under any circumstances. Any path is only a path. There is no affront to yourself or others in dropping a path if that is what your heart tells you to do. But your decision to keep on a path or to leave it must be free of fear and ambition. I caution you: look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times as you think necessary. Then ask yourself and yourself alone this one question. Does this path have a heart? All paths are the same. They lead nowhere. They are paths going through the brush or into the brush or under the brush of the Universe. The only question is: Does this path have a heart? If it does, then it is a good path. If it doesn’t, then it is of no use.

14. That is a resourceful quote and
I think we can agree that, taken to heart, it is empowering in its own right and similar to what we understand.

In addition, problems can be perplexing and a focal point, so much so that our attention and intent is focused on them and they become large and encompassing.

It is then when we can use our resources to know more about it. There is problem, and logically, there is also not problem. When I sincerely consider what is "not problem" by expanding my focus and looking into the peripheral, the immensity and contrast of "not problem" has a very interesting and relieving effect, all total.

There is where you can find more choices and flexibility on the path. We are more adaptable then we realize or have been told.

Thanks for the useful reminder and uplifiting feedback! May your intent grow stronger and may clarity prevail in your new an growing field of choices.

4. They are covering up less and less...
...and allowing us to see how much disdain they have for "We The People."

They've got their precious Patriot Act in place, so they've got a way to handle
those who decide to do something.

We have no Habeas Corpus. We can be declared "enemy combatants" simply for speaking
out against our government, then detained indefinitely, denied an attorney, and even
tortured.

That is their safety net; a solution for dealing with those who try to do something. With
that in place, they're allowing the mask to slip off.

Your intuition is correct, I believe.

17. and what would be the reason for covering up less & less?
interesting to speculate about.

could be that chaos is what they want.

so as to have the excuse to come in & adjust political boundaries & jurisdictions.

8. I posted this the other day and still feel it is worth repeating
Some Democrats (even here) do the same as republicans("the Republicans knew in their hearts just how bad Bush really was, how he was siding with the very rich against the middle class and hurting the country, how he was fighting an illegal war and wasting money, but they said nothing.")

We are REALLY two parties within the Democratic Party. There are the conservadems (people too chickenshit to admit to actually being republicans--then subdivide that to trolls and poseurs)and then there are the REAL Democrats (who are sickened by what is happening).
The "Big Tent Theory" is only there to make an excuse as to why they have infiltrated our party and to pretend that they have a reason to be here and why we should have to let them remain, even when they despise every thing the Democratic Party has ever held dear.

The REAL Democrats are committed to holding ourselves and this President to a higher standard--whereas the conservadems are getting exactly what they want from this administration. Put me on the side of purity.

The walls of this empire are crumbling and will fall (as they always do) and there will be a realignment. People will suffer and people will die--denying basic needs like money to the unemployed and food to the hungry and healthcare to the sick will assure some easy picking wins to the elite so they won't HAVE to fight us all. The middle and poor classes will be weakened by any means necessary including shutting down borders (in the name of job preservation).
We literally bet the house on Obama and the bank will be here to foreclose on it (as soon as they can find the proper documents--of course, under new laws those won't even be necessary). We had this ONE chance to save our country. It didn't happen. The final chapters of this will be written in the History books--most of us will never live to see the outcome.

9. Have felt that way for 10 years
We're paralyzed as a nation because we are not united in our common goals. Torn apart by lies and disinformation. wikkileaks has given me a small sense of hope. When the shit hit the fan during Vietnam people stood up and demanded an end.

However, the bush administration censored the bloody facts of his war games. The in coming daily coffins, body counts, embedded journalists.

There is no draft which means those who back in the day would protest to save their asses, today so. They play arm chair warrior with other peoples lives. Bring back the draft, most will think twice before chanting bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.

If our fellows begin to see and believe that it's all been smoke and mirrors maybe we have a chance.

11. I can't see a way out of the gridlock in the House after January.
That troubles me a good deal. The Republicans simply aren't interested in what's best for the nation anymore.

This is not "my father's" GOP.

It isn't easier knowing that the American people did this to themselves, and in the course of one generation.
