There's a decent chance Nancy is giving cover to Barack
A backlash this strong wasn't expected - I don't think he'd do it if he knew. He also had some discussions with Nancy before the deal, and I doubt he'd push ahead with something she found unacceptable, or something they thought the caucus would revolt over.

Now, to help quiet the storm, Nancy is "demanding" more GOP concessions, which will be quite minor - and also quite possibly something they know enough Republicans can live with. But it will still seem as though they went back and got a more acceptable deal.

1. That's because she intended to look for a deal all along
She's probably happy the President is taking all the heat for trying to remedy Congress' own failure and intransigence.

2. I wish she, Obama, and the rest in D.C. would 'give cover' to the poor, hungry, and homeless
After all, it is a major part of their job.... that they never seem to be able to do effectively... for some reason.

7. Sorry Swamp Rat, those people don't care to
'give cover' to the poor, hungry, and homeless. They are not a part of their lifestyle. They seem to consider them a burden. Face it, what do the poor, hungry, and homeless do for them? Nothing. They are not their brothers keepers. Anymore they only take those jobs as "a servant of the people" for a stepping stone and to gather riches up for themselves, We get the illusion that they care. They don't. So now for many, the illusion has faded away, we see it's a sham, and the magic is gone.

9. I like the way the Prophet Frank Zappa explained it:
"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre."

4. I'm not buying that. I think there are a lot of democrats in the
House who know how tone deaf this administration has become. Pelosi knows the democrats have dropped the ball and she's attempting to get it back.

5. Agreed--it seems to me that the House Dems are more stubbornly
progressive (on the whol) than the WH and even the Senate.

I love two reps from my state although they represent other districts (Pastor and Grijalva).

10. I think it's safe to assume that they made a deal. Yes.
