A very sobering thought about "A Letter From Anonymous," which allegedly defends WikiLeaks |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 04:00 PM by Jeffersons Ghost
Here's an excerpt from "A Letter From Anonymous."
Pay attention citizens, governments, and the world. Anonymous' peaceful campaign will focus on any organization, corporation, government, or entity until the Internet is truly free.
Anonymous is doing what many successful campaigns have done in the past; a sit-in. It may be hard to comprehend, but a digital sit-in is our most effective method to show that all of us deserve Freedom of Speech and a free Internet. Our methods may appear, on the outside, to be cruel to those the entities that we are campaigning against, but remember buy supporting censorship they are denying everyone a basic human right. Any person, corporation, government, or miscellaneous entity that stops supporting censorship and starts promoting Freedom of Speech and a free Internet will become our allies. Anonymous, at this time, wants to persuade our counterparts rather than hurt them. We are campaigning for freedom for everyone, even the opposing side.
Much of this "letter" has nothing to do with WikiLeaks. With net neutrality scheduled for debate in congress and with a current conflict between the FCC and gigantic communications companies, isn't it possible that this "Letter from Anonymous" is an excuse for these corporations to abolish net neutrality, with the help of their bought out politicians in DC? Do you remember what an attack on 9/11 did for "freedom?"

5. nope, I'm suggesting that it could be a corporate campaign, so that they can control the internet |
|

Just like the bullshit excuses to invade Iraq. SOP. It may be legit, but never take anything at face value any more.

9. I don't believe in coincidences when it comes to BIG money... |
|
The timing of this letter is too close to net neutrality discussions.

it's to question how corps in collusion with governments always benefit from chaos.

6. That's because net neutrality is Anon's cause du jour. Wikileaks is incidential. |
|
A considerable number of Anon appears to believe that the recent DDOS attacks are counterproductive, as petty retribution does nothing to stop censorship while providing a pretext for censorship of the internet. Others seem to think that a show of strength is exactly what this movement needs; they believe that fear of reprisal intimidates moderates.
If I were one of the Bad Guys, I'd definitely be encouraging these attacks. Radicalizing a movement is one of the surest ways of marginalizing it.

8. how would changing QoS/Queuing have anything to do with Net Neut? |
|
I see where you're coming from, but net neutrality, on its face, wouldn't seem to have anything to do with Anonymous or their actions.

12. It's possible - hell, anything is possible. |
|
However I think if the corps/govs were behind it, they would have done it bigger; they would have taken down a lot of shit at the same time to really get people riled up and scared. Not to say that couldn't still happen....
