DADT is up to the courts. I'm tired of being a second-class citizen. |

Enough of you who shout us down with your "Congress has to be the one to repeal this!!!!1"
Enough. We will win in the courts if not Congress.

2. And once it's won in the courts, it will go into effect immediately |
|
Unlike if it passes in Congress and they (military) get a year to enact it. I say the courts are a better route.

Doesn't it all boil down to that?

I know several on DU were claiming he would when it failed in Congress.
Of course, the same ones were also claiming it wouldn't fail in Congress.

8. This was all a pre-rehearsed charade with the outcome known before the cameras came on. |
|
"We tried." That's what I've expected to hear and now we will hear it.
Just an orchestrated theater with the final act well-rehearsed.
They played everyone perfectly.
And now the curtain falls.

21. We always hear "You need 60 votes", but really you just need One. |
|
It's all planned out like crappy TV wrestling. First they decide if they want it to pass or fail. Then they get together and decide who can afford to vote no and yes and then make sure only those who personally benefit from their vote, vote that way. And presto, after the vote they can all have press conferences about how it went and cry big fat crocodile tears about how hard they worked.
Meh. I'm done.

With the bitter partisanship in the Senate and with the 60-votes-for-cloture rule that the Repukes just LOVE to abuse, I don't see any legislative path to repealing DADT at any point in the foreseeable future. If it couldn't happen with the overwhelming Democratic majorities in the 111th Congress, combined with our Democratic President who I'm certain would sign a repeal bill, then how can that be a possible avenue for successful repeal? How much of a Democratic majority in the Senate would it take? 65 seats? 70? 80?
The last two years were our best chance of getting this done, but the can kept getting kicked because the Congress had "more important" things to do. The military effectively (with Obama's blessing) kicked the can into the lame duck session so they could do their pointless and expensive "study" that confirmed what anyone with common sense and critical thinking skills already knew. Now the can has been kicked for too long and the clock has simply run out, and the Democrats in their complicity are just as culpable as the Repukes.
Fuckers, every one of them. It's up to the courts now. The DOJ can no longer take the moral high ground in continuing to appeal Judge Phillips' ruling.

15. Two Dems voted no to debates on the repeal |
|
Brown of Mass. and Manchin of West Virginia. Yeah, and I got flamed when I had posted to DU that I was depressed having little choice but to vote for Manchin when I really wanted someone to vote FOR, not just the lesser of two evils. Maybe some of those folks who jumped on my ass about how I felt on election day will now find a freakin' clue how it feels to be a gay citizen in this country and have to vote for a Dem who hates your very being.

But otherwise, yes, I'm right there with you. Trust me, as a citizen of Georgia and considering what passes for a Democrat in this state, I know ALL ABOUT voting for the lesser of two evils.

But yeah, like I said, it would be nice to have someone to vote FOR rather than just voting against the Republican. I'm just disgusted with it all.
