WTF? State takes 16 minutes to execute inmate, and no investigation is planned?

<snip>
The execution team stuck Newton at least 10 times with needles to get in place the shunts used to administer the lethal chemicals. Newton, who had insisted on the death penalty as punishment for killing a cellmate, continued to talk, smile and laugh with the prison staff, and at one point was even given a bathroom break.

Newton's unusual amount of movement and the time it took him to die raised new questions Friday among death penalty critics already alarmed by the problems that delayed his execution. ...

The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio asked the state Thursday to halt executions, but prison officials said Friday that Newton's execution was properly handled and considered successful. They planned no investigation or autopsy.

<snip>

Can we just admit it? We've lost our fucking mind. How in the HELL can anyone defend something like this?

2. They should put in a PICC line the day before....
They come with 2-3 leumens....They can draw-up the lethal injection as an IV Push, straight in.... or as a piggy-back secondary infusion. Of course, that includes having a primary line of say 0.9 saline dripping as long as you want until the lethal dose is to be administered.

What is a PICC Line?

http://www.cpmc.org/learning/documents/nur-piccline-ws.html#What%20is%20a%20PICC%20Line?

A Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter, or "PICC line," is a thin, long, soft plastic tube that functions as an intravenous (IV) line. A PICC line allows your nurses and doctors to give you medications and fluids on a frequent basis. A PICC line can remain in place for as long as you need IV therapy.

A specially certified Registered Nurse (RN) usually performs this procedure. The RN inserts a PICC line into a large vein in your arm and guides the catheter up into the main vein near your heart where there is rapid blood flow. The RN sutures (stitches) the PICC line in place and covers the site with a sterile, transparent dressing. An x-ray is taken to assure that the catheter is in the right location. Inserting the PICC line takes 1 – 1½ hours to complete. Most patients feel little or no discomfort during this procedure. A local anesthetic may be used.

4. Couldn't a PICC be put in anytime?
Like an hour before, instead of a day? I've read about a couple of times when there was a problem finding a vein...your solution sounds practical to me...is that why it's not used?

Way off the subject, but would you please pm me your roasted garlic appetizer recipe, please?

:)

9. Sure, I'll send you the recipe.
I'm at work at the moment in my Office. I'll send it off tonight.

Placing a PICC line in a day or so before the injection is realistic verses an hour before, as an x-ray for placement is required. It's a long catheter that lead up to the just above the heart via a peripheral vein. You can just cap the line and make it a Saline Lock without indwelling fluids continually...just flush the lumens with 5-10 cc saline every 12 hours for patency. They can just walk about like having a bracelet on....

When it's "showtime" set up the tubing and fluids with Primary and secondary lines. Very easy.

3. So, they what?
Took the straps off his arms, legs and torso, helped him off the table, and walked him down to the john, then walked him back and strapped him in again, finally found a vein, then injected him????

You're right BushOut06, we've lost our collective fucking mind!

I'm against the death penalty, anyway, and this made me ill.
