Manchin: I didn't mean it when I voted "no".
"While I believe the 'Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell' policy will be repealed someday, and probably should be repealed in the near future, I do not support its repeal at this time," Manchin said in the statement. "I truly understand that my position will anger those who believe repeal should happen now and for that I sincerely apologize. While I am very sympathetic to those who passionately support the repeal, as a Senator of just three weeks, I have not had the opportunity to visit and hear the full range of viewpoints from the citizens of West Virginia."

Manchin went on to explain that his 'no' vote Thursday doesn't reflect concerns with repealing the ban on openly gay service members. He said it's "an issue of timing."

2. Civil rights are not determined by popular vote, Senator Manchin.
They are human rights that are enshrined by our Constitution.

"I voted no, because this gay stuff is way too complicated for me to figure out in the short time I've been a senator."

Is this guy for real?

9. BIG yellow streak running down his back, isn't there?
Just embrace your inner bigot, Mr. Manchin. Cut out the sophistry and the "timing" nonsense; if it had been up to you, we'd still have "White Only" drinking fountain because the time just isn't quite right, and you haven't had a chance to hear the full range of viewpoints from the citizens of West Virginia.

Gee, that sounds kind of stupid, doesn't it? After all, segregation hasn't been the law of the land for decades now. Well, in a very short time, your statement about your vote today is going to sound just as stupid. Live with it.

15. What's funny
Is that when he was a child, there were places in his hometown where his parents couldn't buy a house because they were Italian. Hell, local rumor has it that one his high school girlfriends was forced by her parents to stop dating him for the same reason. I guess bigotry is acceptable when your religion and your corporate masters say it's OK.
