It's the very business of inflicting poverty on the great unwashed: taking them to the cleaners. The point about being the smartest guys in the room is finding willing dupes to take losing bets.

And if the public has to pick up the tab for super leveraged short derivatives on AIG, Fannie and Freddie, all the better.

It's a zero sum game. If they win, you lose.
