I do not envy SNL making fun of the president this week. He's damn well ridicule-proof at this point. I mean, was he seriously suggesting that terrorists are only targeting children? Or maybe there's a specific plot against David Gregory's kids? If I were a terrorist, I'd totally target some place like a bingo hall or a retirement home. It seems like Bush doesn't give a rat's ass about them.

I am a new member so please forgive me if I am rehashing an old topic. The thing that is really pathetic about the rank and file wingnuts is that they all are really petrified. If you look, even superficially, at the things that they advocate it is clear. Guns for all because they are afraid someone will mug them or burgle their home. Eavesdrop on all of us because they are afraid the 'brown' neighbor with the 'odd-smelling' dinner is really planning on bombing the fudge shop on 5th and Elm. Keep programs that help the poor underfunded so that the poor can't move into their neighborhoods, shop at their malls, or date their daughters. Let's have everything 'English only' because they are afraid that people will talk and they won't understand. I'm not even going to start on the whole fear of fire, brimstone and eternal damnation. (google socrates meets jesus for a good read)

We need to reshape the entire 'mommy' and 'daddy' party vocabulary. It must become a paradigm (sorry but it's appropriate here) where we progressives present ourselves as the 'secure' party, and label the wingnuts as the Party of Insecurity and Paranoia. We are the ones who are not living in terror that we will be mugged or bombed. We are the ones who are honest enough with ourselves to realize that if my marriage fails or succeeds that it has nothing to do with the legal status of someone else's relationship. We are the ones who know that when all of us have the greatest opportunity to reach our potential, then all of us benefit.
