Here's the gay marriage issue of the 2008 election - the ERA!!
My inbox is starting to fill up and I have even had a phone call this week about bringing back the Equal Rights Amendment. The assumption that because I AM a liberated woman and an activist I would surely jump on the ERA bandwagon is ignorant and downright insulting.

Democrats reviving fight over the ERA
By Rob Hotakainen
McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON - For Sen. Claire McCaskill, equality for women is "just like motherhood and apple pie," but the Missouri Democrat is none too eager to change the Constitution to guarantee it.

So as Congress prepares for hearings on a revived Equal Rights Amendment, McCaskill is on the sidelines, much to the disappointment of some of her feminist backers.

Can we say DISTRACTION?

Good grief. Congress can't end the damn war and NOW we are supposed to think they care about women's rights? What about the rights of the innocent Iraqis being murdered every day?

What about the rights of our troops stuck in a dangerous quagmire and being blown to bits by "insurgents"?

And damnit, what about the rights of the American people to elect a Congress that LISTENS to what we want? They are chickenshits, afraid of the worst president ever and now we think we can make them fight for women's rights? Sheesh, talk about needing to get a clue!!

So to every feminist planning on pushing the ERA and to every Congress critter wanting to fight for my rights: END THE DAMN WAR! There is NO greater attack on women and their rights than what we are seeing every day in the middle east. I am one woman who will NOT fall for this distraction.
