"Reads The Intelligence" my ass
A reporter asked Bush how he could be so cocksure of his positions and his response was that he 'read the intelligence'.

"Reads the intelligence" - yeah, my ass reads the intelligence.

Of all the photographs I have seen of the man during his Presidency and before the only one I have ever seen in which he was reading anything - anything at all - was "My Pet Goat".

As I recall it has been reported that when he was Governor of Texas pleas for clemency were synopsized to a single page and even that was read to him by his sidekick, Roberto Gonzalez. He didn't read them and every prisoner went to the executioner.

I recall photos of Kennedy buried in a book, Johnson studying reams of papers. I have memory of Gerald Ford studying leather-bound tomes and of course President Clinton had a voracious appetite for the written word.

And our next President? Will he be a man or woman who reads?

that was a rather humorous remark. In the way that many thousands of deaths attributable to this man are humorous.

But then again, "I'm on a roll here".
