‘Our pride and our joy’

‘Our pride and our joy’
From the day you were born, you have been our pride and our joy. We have been proud of what you’ve accomplished: years of soccer, becoming an Eagle Scout, and years of band. But most of all, we are proud of your love for your family and friends. We know how much you love God, and our prayer is that you will continue to seek His guidance as you graduate.

Love, Mom & Dad

— From a note Benjamin Ashley’s parents wrote to him in Truman High School’s yearbook, Heritage 2002

Benjamin was killed in Iraq this week.

2. Too many sad stories like these
Too many so called leaders who won't put their jobs on the line to stop the madness.

7. What a total shame, but I wouldn't want to say waste.
These stories have had me in a funk for several years now and Katrina only made it worse. The total incompetence that has caused all this can not be understated.

Our men and women in combat believe they are doing the right thing and they will die to support their comrades. Without those beliefs they would tear themselves apart. The need for unquestioned unit support and pride in action was instilled starting at basic training. Our Pentagon brainwashes them to be robots with tunnel vision with a focus on obedience, esprit de corps and a willingness for self sacrifice for fellow GIs.

It's our job to bring them home from this unrighteous war just as was done in Vietnam. Active duty GIs and their families may not appreciate our efforts, but they will once they are discharged and begin to think about how they and their family were shafted by self serving agendas and politicians who gained financially and lived well while they sacrificed and some gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Since WW2 there has only been one major military action that was unquestionably in our interests (based upon common knowledge)...Afghanistan.

8. I am willing to call it a waste
Sounds like a neat kid with a lot of promise. Now he's gone. That's a waste, a needless death.

10. twice in the past week
the daily paper has run headlines about dead local sons. i pray that the people will begin to wake up and that the tipping point for this nation to get loud and angry against this war has already come and gone. i reached the tipping point before the war began...from the headlines i gather that the death toll is rising. the surge is clearly a failure. the war is a failure. how can this go on?

how long will this go on.
