"Doctor" Laura pleads for privacy while her "son is probed" over lurid MySpace page

Radio talk-show host Laura Schlessinger is appealing to news media outlets to respect her son's privacy amid an Army investigation into whether he is behind a lurid personal Web page that featured cartoon depictions of rape, murder, torture and child molestation.

The posting on MySpace.com drew the Army's attention after the Salt Lake City Tribune reported this month that the Web page was credited to and included photos of Deryk, the 21-year-old son of the outspoken radio personality known to millions as "Dr. Laura." She can be heard locally on KFI-AM (640).

According to the Tribune, the Web page, which has since been taken down, included a photograph of a bound and blindfolded detainee, accounts of illicit drug use and a blog entry headlined by a series of obscenities and racial epithets....

The radio host has taken a break from writing her column in the Santa Barbara News-Press but not from her other work. "She just needed a break," her spokesman, Mike Paul, wrote in an e-mail.

That a woman who has built her career on publicly tearing apart the faults and foibles of others, on the public airwaves, can still summon up the gall to ask that the rules be changed for her. When she set the rules with her big mouth and imperious attitude.

The ugly side of me will find it quite entertaining if it becomes public that her son was eating dead bodies and was a regular bestiality bottom at the Baghdad Zoo.

patting herself on the back years ago for the great job she was doing raising him. (And of course, how most other parents are neglectful idiots.) It blew my mind that she always talked about how she didn't care if he saw violence. That was "natural for boys." But sex? She'll never discuss it, and if anyone brings the subject up- even if it's just to say she's not to blame- she'll drop the call so fast that the delay will leave no hint of their comment.

I used to hear her show when I commuted to college and nothing else was available. I remember when those nude photos of her came out on the internet- she just dumped callers as soon as they said anything about the internet or photos- it was hilarious. My mom still listens to this woman's show, and I mentioned a few of these lurid episodes in Schlessinger's own life, and my mom had never heard about any of them. Didn't even know she was divorced.

I guess Laura just gives out so much morality that she hasn't got any left for herself. Poor woman.
