17. Thank you , Cindy Sheehan,
for holding before the nation that the statistics of war have human faces and the vague and blanched language of policy masks very real and terrible consequences when it is implemented. Thanks for your tireless efforts to teach that peace should be cultivated and actively sought as an answer to the world's problems. That war should not be the first response in a civilized world.

Your work has been much appreciated by this mother and grandmother.

I believe that we wouldn't be where we are today if not for your heroic efforts.
You've had a huge influence on America's awareness of this illegal war, and I have huge admiration for the strength and courage you've shown throughout these last years.
So today I send out good(and restful)thoughts to you. Rest well, as I have a feeling you'll be back!
In the meantime, a heartfelt "THANK YOU" to you-from myself, and my children.

24. Peace
Cindy,

You have more than earned a break and the right to be frustrated and even angry. You have traveled further than anyone would have ever dreamed. I remember how sickened many of us
were that the anti-war movement couldn't get any traction with the media. Then you came along and changed that game. You gave a lot of people hope that we could make a difference.
Thank god the media paid attention to you, however briefly, rudely, or imperfectly. If that makes you an "attention whore" (or whatever the heck morons have accused you of) ... we need about a million more whores just like you. People are ignorant, but truth is still powerful. It's sad that you have shouldered so much personal responsibility, it seems like a lonely job. But that burden is also your gift... one that will be honored and fully appreciated some day, maybe just not in our lifetime. And that has to be OK.

Still no new posts of thanks, though. Looks like Cindy has less than 29 supporters on here willing to thank her - don't think that's all the supporters she has, which is why I think most people are bored with the topic.

I'm surprised it's not higher, myself. She stood up to the Bush administration when it was not popular and I think she deserves more than thanks for that. However, I personally don't support her recent tirade against the Democratics who are not even a majority in the Senate (Kissyface has his own party and is not a Democratic although he's still caucusing with them and would remove that caucus if anyone tried to stop his beloved war).

I think a solid majority of activist, non elected Democrats find your efforts far more important than the well being of turn coat Democrats. Issues come first over partisan politics as does the your work to make America a peaceful country. We wish you somehow find peace admist the Nations turmoil that has so ruined the lives of so many. Please re-visit our efforts because; I am sure most of us are with you.

55. Cindy's message
Cindy conceived the idea of an anti-war campaign at a Veterans For Peace convention, left there and established Camp Casey in 2005. Her message for some time was strictly an anti-war message but soon morphed into a broader progressive idea. She realized that in order to construct a society beneficial to all we needed revolutionary change. Her message began to focus on the circumstances that allow a government to engage in the behaviour we've witnessed over the last 30 years. A power structure based on profit and greed. She didn't present herself as a slick pundit, just the opposite, her words didn't require a politically correct dictionary to understand. She knew that unless and until we changed that power structure and its foundation (read money) it would be a war du jour. Forever. So she took on the free traders, the greed merchants and other corporate ne'er-do-wells. She held the DLC up to ridicule and castigated those slimy politicians that followed the corporate mantra. Quite a task in a country where one's material possessions are the primary gauge of one's "success" and happiness. Made even more difficult by people who spend the majority of their leisure time watching mind-numbing pablum on television. She went to events sponsored by folks such as Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), where the parking lot was usually full of newer or new SUV's. It was no longer just about the occupation of Iraq; it was a campaign to change the world. The warmongers were the first to demonize Cindy, but when she started in on the corporate agenda the free trade/corporate Democrats joined the fray. The outcome we have just seen. Those of us who belong to the community of Veterans For Peace will carry on her work. Probably with a little more vigour. Cindy wasn't a one-trick pony and neither are we. Gandhi once said, "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." We love you, Cindy, and thank you for your honestly and your integrity. The world would be a much better place with a few more like you.
