Protest as an act of faith
Edited on Tue May-29-07 04:57 AM by cleveramerican
Protest, even violent protest is essentially an act of faith. Faith that those who hold the power are listening. Faith that your fellow citizen can be conviced to see things differently.Faith that right makes might. Faith in the basic goodness of ourself as a nation.

Politicians want to be loved, even as they say they are not concerned about such things. Secretly they all want to be another Washington or Lincoln or Roosevelt.I have faith in this fact.

Politicians want to do whats best for our country, want to do whats sensible and decent. Nobody runs for office to screw things up.

So as a profession of faith, there is no higher form than standing out there in the town square with your END THE WAR! sign.

1. Ineffective protest is an act of faith
Effective protest leads to a general mobilization of the population and a consequent shutdown of normal social activities.
