Gary Hart on Huffington Post. "What It Means To Be Secure" |
|
An excellent analysis in many respects. Why is it that the best and deepest thinkers in the Democratic Party are unable or unwilling to run for president? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/gary-hart/what-it-means-to-be-secur_b_49455.html

1. Gary Hart did run for president. |
|
He probably could have won the Democratic nomination for president in 1988 if he hadn't been photographed with Donna Rice sitting on his lap. It may be unfortunate that such a thing can cost a man the nomination; but, Hart knew the rules when he did it.
I agree that some of his ideas expressed in the article are interesting. But, they're not fully developed. When Mondale ran against Hart for the nomination, Mondale's question to Hart was, "Where's the beef?" When I read that article, I was left asking the same question. There are some good sounding ideas in the article, but none of them are developed beyond an extremely abstract level.
What part of his analysis did you find interesting?
