CHICAGO (STNG) - There were protest songs, poetry and speeches criticizing the government for the war in Iraq.

But, as WBBM's Nancy Harty reports, the people gathered at the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial downtown along the Chicago River were not hippies or religious objectors to the war, they were veterans.

Former soldiers, National Guardsmen and Marines who served in Baghdad and Kabul joined their military brothers from the Vietnam era in opposition to the current war.

After the speeches, participants lined up to drop red carnations in the river. The flowers symbolize the civilian and military casualties of the Iraq war.
