5. Why does the first drawing remind me of the Alamo/
The office building looks like the DC Kennedy Center, for Crissakes.

Maybe the pool can be used for a real game of battleship with the insurgents. They can set up their model boats in the pool, and blam!....

6. Extremely High Stress Job Posting. Size is the Issue.
I can understand why it would be important to have some recreational facilities in the US embassy in Iraq. It is unsafe for employees to stroll around Baghdad - they have to stay in the Green zone. Even within the Green Zone, mortars can kill, and terrorist bombings have occurred. Most US foreign service personel would prefer to be elsewhere. It also is an unsafe place to bring any family members, which increases the feelings of isolation and loneliness. Also, with temperatures frequently reaching over 100 degrees, a pool becomes important.

However, the total size of the embassy is more the issue. The huge size hints that we intend to continue running much of the country for many years, together with the many permanent military bases we have constructed at great cost.

I know there's more that includes references to the swimming pools and tennis courts, but DU's struggling and I don't want to burden the server with more archive searches.

8. Good.
And when we leave, we can give this beautiful complex to the Iraqis, who rigthfully deserve it. After what we've done to that country.

I hope they enjoy their new facilities.

9. I know this is not funny but
when I read your subject line I thought Beverly Hillbillies, "swimming pools, movie stars". Somehow considering this administration it all fits. Now all I can hear in my head is banjos.
