Russia test-launches new ICBM

By JIM HEINTZ
Associated Press Writer

MOSCOW (AP) -- Russia on Tuesday test-launched a new intercontinental ballistic missile capable of carrying multiple independent warheads, and a top government official said it could penetrate any defense system, a news agency reported.

The new missile would modernize Russia's stockpile at a time of rising tensions with the West.

The ICBM was fired from a mobile launcher at the Plesetsk launch site in northwestern Russia, and its test warhead landed on target about 3,400 miles away on the Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula, a statement from the Russian Strategic Missile Forces said.

President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said Russia would continue to improve its nuclear weapons systems and respond to U.S. plans to deploy a missile defense system in Europe.

1. yah, another cold war
but this time we will lose. We bankrupted the USSR the last time, but now we are already weakened from years of bs war. We will lose this cold war. Get ready to stand in line for toilet paper.

The bush regime has broken our military. We have too few troops. They are not trained enough. They have old equipment. We are weak thanks to this admin.

7. And the dogma also effects environmental protections.
They don't want to take care of the planet since they believe armageddon is just around the corner.

9. Fuck experience, it's intelligence that's needed
There's plenty with "experience". They happily went along with the policies that got us into this mess.

The White House needs someone with foreign policy insight who isn't just going to carry on the failed policies of the past because it's easier than coming up with a new approach.

Experience is experience of going along with Sanctions, "regime change", WMD fantasies and the IWR. That kind of experience I can live without.

10. Intelligence on foreign policy.
The situations in Iraq, Iran, Israel/Palestine...etc
are extremely complicated. Situations that go back for hundreds of years.

I'm just feeling this is not time for someone to be cramming foreign policy studies. I want someone that knows it. Not has to learn it.

That's one reason I supported Kerry from the beginning in '04.

11. They don't know it!
They get briefed. We're talking about people who don't even read key documents before voting war powers. It's a con. "Experience" is their way of telling you to vote for mainstream banality. I see the world those with foreign-policy experience created. I want better.
