Thank you supporters and fans of reality TV
Because of your support for brainless programming you now can watch real suffering...http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18919768/

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - A Dutch reality show that claims to be trying to draw attention to a shortage of organ donors said Tuesday it would go ahead with a program in which a terminally ill woman will choose a contestant to receive one of her kidneys.

The show is being produced by Endemol NV, the creator of the “Big Brother” series.

Way to go folks...you have officially lowered the bar IMHO

6. I believe that Big Brother
Played in the US...so I guess it is only a matter of time before someone comes up with the idea of watching real people dying here in this country for entertainment...kinda like "The Running Man"

18. uhh IIRC Big Brother started in the UK
I'm sure someone will check it.

But I'd like to know how the US has lowered the bar in a european country? Last time I looked we didn't have control of worldwide airwaves.

Did we truly become masters of the known universe while I wasn't paying attention? :sarcasm:

13. Three Words: Christian versus Lions
when I see this, I quit. The last time that a civilization sunk so low it was the Romans and they were clearly on their way out.

How long before we deteriorate as a civilization? tick tick tick....I'm waiting.

22. you don't really think the dutch needed our help to come up this do you?
Heck, the Dutch were among the inventors of reality tv. Nummer 28 was a dutch show that is widely viewed as the inspiration for MTV's the Real World. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nummer_28

But if we're going to assign blame, why don't you put it where it belongs: on PBS, for presenting the first "reality" show -- American Family.

23. Good Intentions Gone Awry - Why I Feel Less Like Donating, Every Year
Edited on Tue May-29-07 04:10 PM by Crisco
What was originally touted as a gift is now, for brokers, a commodity and for the end recipients, a demand that borders on entitlement.

Sometimes I feel that the more we refuse to face death and the possibility of death, the less human we become.

from the BBC story on the show:

The former director of TV station BNN, Bart de Graaff, died from kidney failure aged 35 after spending years on a transplant waiting list.

"The chance for a kidney for the contestants is 33%," said the station's current chairman, Laurens Drillich. "This is much higher than that for people on a waiting list."

"We think that is disastrous, so we are acting in a shocking way to bring attention to this problem."
