I think I LOVE the "Ignore" button!
It's been so long since I was this relaxed while on DU. Not only are there not going to pop up any threads by certain victims of latent cretinism, but if they respond to something I post, I can tell immediately that I don't want to hear what they have to say!

SHIT! This is like having my own private "Tombstone" button. Not that I don't wish they'd shut up, but this is the next best thing.

3. I only have one DUer on ignore.
But it's been the best thing I've ever done! Every time "Ignored" shows up in a thread, I think to myself, "OMG, there's that asshole! I'm so glad I don't have to subject myself to her!" It truly is a blessing!

But I'm tired of listening to some of the assholes in life, and we've got a few of them here. I didn't have ANY on ignore until this morning, but the Cindy Sheehan incident has had the effect of some turds floating to the top of the punch bowl.

Now I have THREE. Good riddance.

13. There are a few who fly under the radar, and I have known
them since I first came to DU, but mostly they are the troublemakers who are trying to get everyone to say nasty things to each other. Usually, those are the ones that go. Giving $5 each quarter is what some of them do and they post a lot in non-political forums to get their post count up, but usually during contentious times, they get outted and tombstoned.

23. Neither have I
I understand those that choose to use it ... but, my experience has been that I can disagree with a poster on one subject, only to find myself in total agreement with them on another. I have found generally mean spirited posters (at least in my opinion) express some very insightful points of view.

If someone ticks me off ... or expresses things in a way I find offensive I stop reading that particular post.

I guess my motivations are selfish ... I don't want to miss anything.

30. (Tyler takes a slight bow)
I actually predicted "Freedom Fries" at the Congressional Dining Room as well, but I did it at work, so I can't document it.

Thanks for the "memory!" It's nice to be remembered!

Not to brag, but in 1981 while I was in the Navy, I laughed my ass off at a group of fellow petty officers who were clapping each other on the back about Reagan getting elected. I told them that the USSR had about 10 years, and would die by MTV and refrigerators. I also said that by the year 2010 they would have their own auto industry: the Auto plant is being built outside of St. Petersburg.

Nobody listens to me, and I'm usually right!

35. This is my most active ignore day ever
I went from a few DUers to about 40 today. Today I seem to have no patience for ghouls picking over Cindy's corpse, "blame the lefters", DLC apologists, real politickers, and anyone else who wants to be an anchor preventing the movement going full throttle.

I'll probably put a lot of them back off ignore next week, but this week I am so friggin' mad!!

It must be because Cindy gave face to something new besides the anti-war movement ... disgust with the political process as we know it. Corruption at its worst, and within our own house.

They have nothing to offer but spin, cliches, talking points and condescension.

"It reminds me of a string of wet sponges; it reminds me of tattered washing on the line; it reminds me of stale bean soup, of college yells, of dogs barking idiotically through endless nights. It is so bad that a sort of grandeur creeps into it. It drags itself out of the dark abysm of pish, and crawls insanely up to the topmost pinnacle of tosh. It is rumble and bumble. It is flap and doodle. It is balder and dash."

48. how curiosity revived this bat..
I spend most of my time on DU reading the opinions posted by others, especially in the Latest Breaking News forum.

the ignore feature certainly helps when I know someone is just trying to piss me off. usually I love a tough fight, but this has limits. when a poster will take any position to dispute any point, then this isn't a debate..it usually devolves into insults and bitterness.

but I usually clear out my ignore list every week. if someone is stalking me at DU, he'll probably be banned. if someone was just having a tough day..he'll probably be making some points I agree with once things cool down.

an ignore list helps me control my temper, and effectively keeps me from getting banned at DU. it is too easy to forget the rules and that we are also wrong. but DU is a great place to teach, and an even better place to learn from fellow Democrats. :grouphug:
