38. "Trash" means to criticize in an unconstructive way, to discard.
You can choose one's opinion over the other without writing them off completely.

16. I'm a proud Democrat, and a proud American, but a twist on a Mark Twain quote....
sums up my feelings on the matter:

"Being a good Democrat means supporting your party all the time, but supporting your party's leadership when they deserve it."

(The original Twain quote was: Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.}

40. I stand with the Democratic Party...
Edited on Wed May-30-07 09:47 AM by Polemicist
As it is the only current hope for a better future for America. If someone can suggest to me a viable alternative, I would of course listen. However, I also support a more Progressive Democratic Party. It's far from perfect and like all of us, has room for improvement.

While I disagree with the recent statements by Ms. Sheehan, I have great respect for her diligent efforts to end the Iraq War. And I thank her for her work and wish for her rest and peace.

Anyone who has ever been involved in any organization of humans, knows that personalities will always come into play within each organization. And the bigger it is, the more of them exist. Disagreements and criticisms are par for the course. They will never be eliminated and we would be foolish to think it possible.

I want everyone to speak their minds whenever they wish about whatever they wish (well except for freeper trolls, they have their own boards for their crap). That's what makes America great. And what makes DU a great messageboard. It is through discussing and defending our beliefs that we advance our causes.

Perfect it is not, but I stand with the party as it is the only way to steer ourselves clear of this national tragedy that is the Bush Administration and Republicanism. Bashing it serves no purpose but to weaken it against a formidable foe.

I was mad when the Democrats took the troop relief dates out (that's my answer to the Repukes' stupid surrender date talking point,) but I don't know, maybe they know more than I do about strategy. I do think they need to keep the pressure on now instead of when it gets near the end of September. The Democrats are still much better than the Repukes and only they have the power to unseat the Repukes in 2008, but I don't give them a blank check.
