To all who believe the Democrats did the best they could regarding the war |
|
Come September, when this latest surge fails like all the other surges that came before it, is it at least safe to hope that the Democrats will not stand down then?
I can picture the situation right now, where the Republicans (who, as we all know, are not built to think for themselves) once again stand behind Bush and accuse the Democrats of the usual nonsense. (They don't want to win, they're helping the enemy, etc...)
What if the Democrats still don't "have the votes" 4 months from now? Will it be acceptable, after about 500 to 600 more troop deaths, for them to capitulate in the same way they did recently? Will the so called "political reality" be enough of an excuse, once again?
Let's say that hypothetically, we all agree to give them this one pass. Who here would be willing to give them another one? How many strikes do they get?
I'm willing to give them one strike. They've had it. If they fold in September, though........

1. Nah, the Republicans are going to steal their thunder |
|
They will say, the Iraqi army is standing up so we can withdraw with honor, unlike the cut and run dems who have bad breath.

12. Because they fully intend to bomb Iran and the blowback will hit the troops. |
|
That's why. Now, do they care what bombing Iran will do to US troops in the area? Hell no. BHN

10. And I'd be good with that |
|
Well, maybe not exactly "good," but no more American GIs dying is a good thing, even if those Republican SOBs manage to successfully spin it to blame Democrats.
I don't really care why they come home, as long as they're home.
I can worry about blame later.

2. The democrats are NOT done |
|
They funded the troops, that is all.
They will continue to fight against this stupid war, until they get the 17 other signatures to finally do something.

7. I will say it again, the Iraqi people want a timetable |
|
the dems could have asked all the bigwigs like Maliki to address our congress, hold a hearing on what the Iraqis want, it's their country and we are supposed to be liberating them. Get Maliki's endorsement of a timetable, then what would Bush and those war apologists in Congress do. Will they listen, NO!

11. well, I will try, but they really need a fresh approach |
|
they will never win a head butt with George Bush, he thrives on confrontation and it only makes him stronger, the only way around him is to use an ability at diplomacy to make connections, do an end run around "stay the course".

4. Remember what granting one more "last" chance will get you... |
|
Melinda Henneberger, via Vince Gill's lyrics, reminded us last December what granting one more last chance will yield: One more plea for one more last chance. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/melinda-henneberger/one-more-last-chance_b_36787.htmlFrankly, lynyrd_skynyrd, I don't feel safe hoping for anything these days.

5. They're not the only party in Congress. The Dem side is the only side |
|
of the boat that's rowing, and we're going in circles. We'll pick up more GOP support, I have confidence in that, as time goes on. The American people will start to notice which party is gumming up the works, and it ain't us.

months. But the tides are turning and the changes have begun. We must not lose faith and give up. Stay strong and vigilant.
Thanks for your post.
