Greatest Photograph Ever. |
|
Ok sorry for the hyperbole. But look: Taken from berni_mccoy's thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=999176&mesg_id=999176I'm not sure why this photo has such an effect on me, but I thought it deserved a thread of its own. Go Al.

I love your picture too. The future asking the present to save their lives, that's what this picture looks like to me. I also love the kitten. :)

12. It's got the same vibe as that Norman Rockwell painting... |
|
(Town Meeting?)
Getting a chance to speak your piece, and having someone who will listen. Not just Gore though... the whole room wants to hear what this kid has to say.
Great photo! Makes ya believe in democracy (remember democracy?)

13. I think Rockwell painted that to illustrate "Freedom of Speech." |
|
I've always loved that painting. The old guys sitting there really listening to what the young guy is saying. Yeah.

29. I immediately thought Norman Rockwell too. |
|
Rockwell loved Americans, and always tried to show the good things about us. We have so few people trying to bring out the good in this country now -- Gore is the best at this.

20. Are you kidding? *grin* |
|
So.
You've got the splash of light with rays pointing at Gore, the 11 year old boy speaking, Al paying rapt attention...
But.
The eye is drawn to the little boy directly in front of Gore who looks to be about 6 years old. He's sitting there, intensely focused on listening to the question. That's the magic.
I think about my own kids, who are a little bit older now. They wouldn't have cared a whit about something like this. But you can just picture it -- Gore coming down into the audience, not speaking "down" to the kid with the question, but instead, he's engaging.
And the little boy is so intrigued.
Yep. That's the magic of this photo.
