Am I the only person here who refuses to dig their heels in on the "Sheehan" situation? |
|
My convoluted thoughts are as follows:
1. Cindy Sheehan is a great woman who tragically lost a son in this horrible Republican created debacle. She turned her personal tragedy into a movement that likely helped change public opinion on the war.
2. Working against Democrats is counter productive to "progress" in the long term, but may be effective in the short term if the primary goal is "ending the war."
3. If Republicans had won congress/the senate in the last mid-terms we'd be in Iran and perhaps Syria by now.
4. As Skinner said - we all share the goal of ending the war, that includes Democrats who funded this battle for four more months, however "wanting" the war to end and being responsible for negotiating the end with a mad man are two different things. We have to respect that we all have different roles.
5. The goals of the Democratic Party extend beyond ending the war in Iraq, (though it is/should be top priority) ultimately we have to restore "reason."
So Cindy, I bid you adieu and while I understand your reasons for parting ways, I hope you'll understand "our" reasons for continuing the battle in our own way.
Peace all, I hope we'll focus on our common ground?

It's a tough situation for me personally to navigate as I am conflicted.

I have deep respect for Cindy, but I'm not ready to trash the party yet. I'm not making the choice she did, but then I'm not in her shoes.

10. Nah. Methinks you speak for... |
|
most people on our side-- who are sad about it, but see no reason to start another "war" over it.
Spilt milk and all... There's only so much energy out there, and we really should spend it on the future, not moaning over the past.

I refuse to spend all this energy in a negative way. We have to much to work for, together.

My heart goes out to the woman. Losing her son the way she did...it's hard to imagine anything else which would cut a parent so deeply. She stood up for something she believed in, and she made her voice heard. That's more than most of us can say.
My sympathy and condolences to her.
The majority of what's being posted regarding her recent decisions comes across as a bunch of self-congratulatory claptrap and overblown egotistical hooha.
