Biden's copter makes emergency landing in Afghanistan

\WASHINGTON — A helicopter carrying Delaware's Joe Biden and two other senior U.S. senators made an emergency landing today in Afghanistan.

Biden and the other senators were not hurt, Biden spokesman Alexander Snyder-Mackler said.

Sens. John Kerry, and Chuck Hagel also were aboard the aircraft., according to Jon Summers, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The lawmakers are on a trip this week that includes stops in India, Turkey and Pakistan.

"They are fine,'' Snyder-Mackler said during a brief interview.

Another Biden press aide, Elizabeth Alexander, released this statement: “The helicopters transporting the Senate delegation in Afghanistan made an unscheduled landing this morning due to a snowstorm. There were no injuries and all members of the traveling party were safely transported to their destination at Bagram Air Base.''

4. I'm just reading my third book (novel) about Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I've learned that especially in the mountains, the terrain is REALLY bleak. If you're not in a cave or a valley, you're kind of out there like a sitting duck.

I can't imagine how scary that must have been for them -- and the ground convoy was probably pretty hairy, too.

I'm SO grateful they're okay.
