Bidenites.... I am so disgusted! |
|
I know I don't post here that often, but gately will recognize me as a Bidenite from a way back....
I am in NY and I voted for Obama in our primary since Joe had already left the race.
I am so disgusted by Hillary I can't stand it. I know that if she wins the nomination, NY is a given as a blue state.
Would it be so bad if I wrote in Joe just to make peace with myself?

we have to be voting AGAINST the Repugs and FOR the Supreme Court appointments that are to come.
I'm just remembering last election when I really felt our win was a given, and was gobsmacked at the outcome. Granted, the election results were "revised", but I THINK if there were more of us turning out to vote it would have been more difficult for them to pull it off.
Also, I think the huge groundswell of voters is mostly attributable to Obama. If you recall, that's why Joe felt he disappeared in IA -- didn't count on the sheer numbers of younger voters participating. IF Hillary gets the nom, I'm not sure the enthusiasm that those voters feel for Obama would transfer to Hillary, so that would make it even more crucial that we vote for the nominee.
Sucks, doesn't it?
Just my opinion and as with all things in life, you gotta do what you gotta do, whether it's the "right" thing or not, and I'll support YOU regardless of what decision you make.
Let's see how things go tomorrow - and possibly beyond -- before you worry yourself about this.
I love seeing you here!
EDIT: Spellcheck has a long way to go - I need "read my mind check".

I know you are right...it just really stinks. I suppose I can just do it for Little MB - so that the SCOTUS is "safe" and roe v wade can continue to be law. After all, the SCOTUS is one of the most important issues of this election, in my opinion - SCOTUS and the economy.
My cousin is an analyst on CNBC and he has been right on for the last few years about the economy and has been investing in gold for years. He fears a depression like Germany in the 1920's. How frightening....I hope he is wrong, but I know he has been right so many times.
He has been hired by so many rethug groups who share with him that they have voted en masse against Hillary so that Obama can fail miserably and they can regain control *sigh*
Thanks for the welcome

7. Well now I'm wondering if you SHOULD just vote for Joe |
|
after reading what mudrunner and JIOOU have to say
I remember the story from my history book about post-war Germany when somebody had to take a wheelbarrow full of money to the store to pay for a loaf of bread -- and he came back out, the wheelbarrow had been stolen, but the thieves left the money. :scared: I'm almost to the point where I feel to hell with gold, get some land with water and grow my own food! I can't believe the situation of the world today.
Why do the rethugs think that Obama will fail miserably? He's got SO MANY supporters (cultists, each and every one!). Did your cousin explain why they feel that way?

4. Vote for Joe in the GE. |
|
As a former New Yorker, I can't see McCain carrying the vote there. If the polls close up then maybe you'd want to reconsider. Given the solid Democratic base downstate I'm sure the Dem will still get the electoral votes and that's all that matters whether that tally is + or - your vote. You must always vote your conscience; Democracy depends on it.

5. I can understand that feeling |
|
In 2000 I was living in a safely Dem. state (Minnesota, before it went weirdly red for a few years - I hear it's going back to Dem country this round). I loved Al Gore but did NOT like Joe Lieberman. I felt my vote was not going to make a difference in MN anyway (and it really didn't). I vote for Nader/LaDuke instead so the Green party in MN, or at least in my district, could have enough electoral support to get certain benefits (public financing or an automatic line or something on the ballot - I admit I've forgotten now). Anyway, the DFL (Dem-Farmer-Labor) party in MN needed a wakeup and I was happy to help with that.
I'm also in NY now. I wasn't registered as a Dem (perhaps it's blasphemy on this site but I'm not crazy about putting party ahead of ideas or labeling myself on record) and didn't get around to it in time for the primaries. I think I would have voted Obama but wasn't excited about either and figured Clinton would win NY anyway (though she DID lose my county).
In November I'll vote for either Dem, as an anti-McCain vote.
I'm not clear on where the # of delegates per state comes from. I think it may be related to voter turnout in the party in previous years, so maybe that's a reason to vote for the Dem. nominee; I'm not sure a writein for another Dem would count. Anyone know anything about the delegate # formulas?

I am in the capital region.
Also, I went to Carleton College, so I have spent time in MN as well - although it was a long time ago - Paul Wellstone was my advisor my freshman year....

Can we keep the Hillary/Obama crap out of here, and leave it in Gd-p?
Some of us do not like Hillary, and some of us do not like Obama. I guess you can say the Bidenites are split down the middle.
I'd really like to try and keep this a peaceful place.
Thanks :)

11. I think we can keep it peaceful, |

but I can see the risk in it too. Pirhana, you have been here long before me, and I'd never want to say anything to alienate you, or make you feel uncomfortable here. I also think that as Bidenites, neither candidate is perfect for us. That means that we have been grappling with who to support. I believe most of us realize that, and respect each others decisions, even if it is different from our own. We discuss it here because we want to have a conversation without it turning to a flame fest as it always does in GD: P.
Having said that, I too don't want to see our board get overrun with either candidate. Maye we could put (pro Obama) or (Pro Hillary) as part of the subject so that those topics can be avoided by those who would rather not engage in those conversations. It also might be advisable for anyone to put (rant) in the subject if you're just venting. That's just my opinion though.

12. If you guys want to discuss Hillary or Obama here, don't let me stop you. |

I have seen some pretty negative comments from both sides here, and I'm just hoping that we don't let this board become divisive.
I am a Bidenite first ;)
