Anybody here like to garden?
I do - and I am going to have to plant some Biden.

http://www.ashcombe.com/newsletters/newsletter3.00.htm

Biden - 'Peter's Compact Carpet.'
Single golden yellow flowers bloom all summer until the first hard frost. Spreads vigorously and grows to 24" high. This is an aggressive American native with a spectacular summer/fall show. Sun and heat tolerant. Great for containers and window boxes.

hehee - I just stumbled upon this!

1. what fun!

I miss gardening. Stuck in an apt., trying to buy a house and that's one of the reasons.

"an aggressive American native with a spectacular summer/fall show. Sun and heat tolerant." :D

Google found me:

http://www.fernlea.com/annual/variety/biden.htm

"Trim back occasionally to encourage blooming."

Gotta keep 'im in line.

3. Love to garden
I have had vegetable gardens since i was a kid. My mother still talks about some of the things I grew.
I have moved so many times in recent years that I can't take the time to get one established. Now that I finally settled down and got married....I'm going to have them in several areas. Over recent years I have really been specializing in flowers.....this year I was going back toward vegetables...but these flowers look interesting.
You never want to leave me at a tool store or a gardening center........I'm like a kid in a candy store....:toast:

4. That's good to know.
I have just planted my first vegetable garden & now I know who to ask for advice.

I, too, am like a kid in a candy store when I'm in the Garden dept.
Have always planted flowers, never vegies before:scared:

5. I'll be glad to help
I have to tell you though.....I've never grown veggies in Arizona before!!!

You can ask and I'll do my best to be helpful.

You already have your garden planted?....we barely got rid of our snow. The grass is just starting to green up. We are being deluged with rain as I speak. I am anxious to get to planting, but will be several more days before the soil can even be worked.

Good luck with your endeavor!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo:

7. The DU garden group has been giving me crap about planting a garden now in Az...
It's gonna be in the 90's on Sun :P
I'm going to be investing in a shade tarp - like people use when they go camping.
That should keep it cooler. But I will be a slave to watering.

I have 2 little baby tomatoes on my tomato plant, and one little green pepper.

Some of my seeds have sprouted, but my onions just won't sprout.

My herbs are going crazy tho, and I love cooking with fresh herbs.
But I can't hardly wait to pick fresh vegies from my garden . . . that is if they don't fry first.

Gardening is the best!

10. Hi Pirhana
Years ago I read an article about growing tomatoes in AZ. They said to dig a long shallow trench & to stretch the tomato out along the trench, with a smaller part sticking out of the ground than how you would normally plant them. The claim was that the plant would develop a longer, shallower root section that would soak up more water since it was closer to the surface.

We are doing a combo of containers & in the ground gardening. We are going to grow tomatoes, green beans, onions & pumpkins. And some flowers. I'll check out your link below on the Biden flowers. They are lovely & I like the description!

I put "order Biden seeds" in google, I get a bunch of Joe Biden links.

hmmm. This is frustrating.
