He may have had a valid point about Gore and Kerry not having the creds on National Security. I don't know, but I DO know Joe will tell you his views, and I also know he would say the very same thing to their face. So that's apparently what he believes, so that's what he told these people.
Next, I thought he was being critical of our Party -- that we wimped out, and I agree with that. We didn't fight back strongly enough, regardless of the issue or attack they were launching at us.
I DON'T like what he said about Kerry and Gore. And although I THINK I understand his point, he didn't need to call them elitists. I think it had more to do with comparing them to Clinton -- Clinton came across much more strongly as "one of us" - just plain 'ol folks, than either Gore or Kerry did. They, IMO, came across a little stiff, aloof and cold. As he said, rightly or wrongly, that was the PERCEPTION people got. You didn't get that warm, fuzzy feeling coming off of them.
If he was still running and I heard him say this, it would definitely be a "ewwwww, no you did NOT just say that" type of thing. Because I tend to go easy on Joe, I'm voting that as often happens, he wasn't judging Gore and Kerry, per se, as opposed to laying out what he thought some of our weaknesses were in the last two elections. They are from the elite class, that's a fact. And Joe is able to look at things objectively without making judgment, I think. An example is his telling Hillary to her face "You are just flat out wrong", and her not taking personal offense.
All that being said, he's been in politics for too many years to put it in that way. And although I'm often impressed by how well he does finesse some potentially sticky points, he should have known better in this case. :spank:
So bottom line -- my take is, REALLY stupid thing to say, but I don't feel he was being derogatory to either of them individually.
