E-mail I just got from Biden's Campaign Mgr.

By Scot Lehigh, Globe Columnist | October 10, 2007
PLYMOUTH, N.H.

JOE BIDEN is baffled - and one can hardly blame him.

In late September, Biden won Senate approval for a resolution saying the United States should work with the United Nations, the international community, and Iraq's leaders to bring about a political solution in Iraq based upon federalism, with semi-autonomous regions for the country's various religious and ethnic groups.

In an intensely polarized time, Biden's resolution passed with an astonishing 75 votes, winning the support of 26 Republicans, including such influential figures as Richard Lugar of Indiana and John Warner of Virginia.

And yet, news of that important sense-of-the-Senate measure fell with a faint thud, mostly relegated to the inside pages, if covered at all, by leading newspapers.

"I just couldn't figure it," Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, says in an interview while campaigning here. "I am willing to risk my career on the fact that this is going to be looked back on as a seminal moment in this war, in this debate."

Kept trying to copy the Boston Globes site/link and couldn't figure it out. Hope someone can post it. The entire article is very good.

follow through. They have to ACT on the amendment, now that it has passed, so the kudos can keep on coming. What's the next step? Who needs to initiate it?

I think DUers are VERY familiar with it as was evidenced by the fights pro and con on several threads. I guess I assume the rest of the country is as interested as we are. Wrong, Gateley.

So again - what's the next step? Anyone have a clue?

6. Around a week ago Biden and Talabani were discussing
this issue. We hear fragments of the Iraqis discussing this possibility.

Also from article:

"Ryan Crocker, the US ambassador to Iraq, knows better, avers Biden, who says that on a recent trip to Iraq, he spent hours with Crocker. That's why Biden suspects that the embassy's statement may have been ordered up by the White House to diminish the Senate vote.

-snip-

Despite initial criticism, apparently based on the partition misunderstanding, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has since spoken more positively of Biden's plan, as has Iraqi President Jalal Talabani."

Hey, is this not encouraging?! Word may be getting out in spite of Bush/cheney. Iraq wants us out, the Shiites just want to be damned sure they get the lions share. If war continues he and his Shiites could lose ground. Right now Maliki can make most of the rules. He can't ignore the Sunnis as they have "friends in strange places". ha

8. I think the controversial Iran resolution
sucks all the air out of the room. If it hadn't been for Liebermann/Kyle's resolution, Biden's resolution probably would have gotten more press. Then that same night was the Democratic debate which ended up dominating the news.

2. It's just like today. How they are barely talking about Biden/Brownback campaigning together.
I don't think two candidates from different parties have ever campaigned together - ever.

But Obama attacked Hillary today. And that is more important.

I am baffled too.

What does Biden have to do to start getting noticed? Campaign naked?
He does more than any other candidate and gets mentioned the least. :(

5. Sigh. You're such an innocent, bless your heart.
$$$$! I just hate it that's the way it is, but it's always the money.

If he got a big jump in contributions, the press would take notice if only to comment on it. Then as a result of his increased staff and advertising, more individuals would begin taking note, too.

9. I haven't given as much as I have... ever.
my cat is eating mice and birds..:sarcasm: . somehow the word needs to get out better. our Guy Biden gets hammered for going along with Bills the republicans came up with. When I know as well as FEW others that compromise is the only way to get anything done in congress. especially a republican controlled one. It seems NO One acknowledges that Biden curtailed most of that republican crap. the one issue i cant seem to counter is the RAVE Bill? where it assumes that neon Trip-toys are a basis to believe Drug trafficking is taking place. I cant find anything about Bidens position with that issue. How he curtailed it, reinforced it, or lessened its impact, amended it, nothing. ~other than he voted for it. Help!
