Senator Biden Will Voice Opposition To Off-Shore Drilling

U.S. Senator Joe Biden will be on the Eastern Shore discussing off shore drilling Monday. Biden will hold a press conference at The Great Dune at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes. The topic of discussion will be alternative energy.

The Senator will discuss his opposition to expanding off-shore drilling and will lay out his vision for a more energy-efficient future. The event begins at 2PM, and if it happens to rain, it will be held inside the Biden Environmental Training Center

I think that's why lately I feel like I just want him to stay at SFRC chair - he can work on MANY issues in the Senate.

Sen. Joseph Biden called on the nation to invest $50 billion over the next five years in new energy technology that would reduce national dependence on foreign oil.


Biden also praised the contract between Bluewater Wind and Delmarva Power for an offshore wind farm off Rehoboth Beach, saying Delaware has taken a courageous step toward the alternative, renewable energy the nation needs.

“By the time George Bush’s new leases produce a drop of oil, Bluewater Wind will be powering 50,000 Delaware homes,” Biden said. Biden said what the country needs is a paradigm shift toward renewable fuel sources and developing alternative technologies to use at home and export abroad.

Delaware’s senior senator said the nation cannot wait to change its mindset and its energy consumption patterns. Acknowledging that some say alternative fuel sources are expensive, Biden said, “We can not afford to not afford it.” He said the nation’s dependency on foreign oil is creating life-altering high costs for Americans and putting the country in a dangerous place by financing anti-American fundamentalism in oil-producing countries.
