Bigotry and Biden
Edited on Sat Oct-27-07 07:08 PM by Froward69
Their is currently an up roar about Obama embracing homosexual bigots. coupled with the out rage over a dailykos post.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x3652055
one of the posters in the thread pointed out the discrimination we Bidenites face all the time.
the use of bigotry, racism and intolerance to fight bigotry, racism and intolerance. Goes over the top frequently and blindly. finding insult where there is none.

a little background here of myself I have two brothers and a sister. They are of "mixed" race Just like Obama. I am a cracker/white. (different fathers, same mother) we were raised to never see color only to see our siblings. Dr Martin Luther King is of the stature in our family as FDR, JFK, and Lincoln. of my brothers one is a bigot. (our mother would beat him to death if she knew how he turned out.) I seldom deal with him but every year during the holidays it is the same. he of course is not filled with hate... I am... every bad turn in his life is the fault of White society. (me and Whitey) when I try to address the issues, he uses the same rhetoric as Biden bashers. of course I am still the bigot. No amount of discussion will ever allow him to see me as simply his brother. I have tried and will never stop trying, as I love my brother, regardless of how narrow his view of the world has become.

Discrimination and bigotry are used to justify ostracizing perceived Bigots. (clean, articulate, black, white)of course are derogatory terms to these people. this is "reverse racism" I do not believe in such a term I believe their is but one underlying truth. hate is hate based upon the color of skin one has or their sexual preference. looking for and seeking out derogatory uses of words where their is none, is in itself a form of bigotry. Just as regardless of gender. a homophobic heterosexual, will usually be insulted by a complement given by a homosexual. or Will fling the accusation of unwanted sexual advance.
It drives me nuts.
I wonder sometimes if Obama would have as many suporters if he had less pigment?
the following quote has today been thrown in back in my face,

"one day people will be judged on the content of their character not the color of their skin" ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

so now somehow I "cannot use this quote as you are supporting a bigot for president". Bigotry to this person goes one way. white to black. never black to white. To quote another person from last night... "how can a race that holds no power engage in racism?" and "power+hate=racism. I don't subscribe to the oppressed white man school of thought." no amount of discussion will ever allow this person to see themselves clearly as the bigot they truly are.

somehow this crap has got to stop. simply not supporting Obama or Hillary for president somehow makes me a bigot? I don't support Edwards either, and he is whiter than my Guy.

the use of bigotry, racism and intolerance to fight bigotry, racism and intolerance. is in itself Bigotry. hate is a two way street. I have never partaken in this and I never will. I refuse to be labeled a Hater. I simply see the most knowledgeable, experienced, Honest, Hard working, Diplomatic, Truthful, Getting it done, Legislative candidate of them ALL.
I do also like Richardson, and Kucinich.
Please get over your misconceptions, and false propaganda. Thank you for your time. (rant off)

1. Good rant!
Using "bigotry" is just a cheap political trick. Obama doesn't hate gays and Biden certainly isn't racist. Anyone with any sense knows that.

When I look at the candidates, I don't see gender or race. This election is much too important to focus on trivial issues. I'm looking for knowledge, judgment, experience, and leadership and the nominee could be purple for all I care.

The whole Obama fiasco bothers me because he is using religion in a way that I find inappropriate for politics, especially after seven years of born again leadership. I wish people would keep religion in their churches or their hearts. Every time a politician focuses on his/her religion, he/she invariably alienates a portion of society.

I hope voters see through these cheesy ploys, but sadly there will be some who will buy the crap.

5. So true, keep religion out of politics
Bush has made the subject offensive with his rants about the religious righteousness. And so many "claimed" to vote for the righteous in 04, so, now some politicians are using the same ploy. Another one that bothers me is the "tough on terrorism" issue. PLEASE, not tough, smart......

At the moment we have a world wide disaster looming. Iraq is unbelievably out of control. I do believe any Dem running will protect our rights and nominate good Supreme Court Justices.

2. I agree with you. Bigotry reminds me of something I learned in college.
That the faults people find in other people are the faults they find in themselves.

I think about that when people call Biden a racist because they didn't like how the Clarence Thomas hearings went.
I wonder about the person who thinks like that. Or the other day when he was called a racist because he spoke the truth about the inequality in education. I read his statement over and over and never saw racism in his words.

I think before Bush came into power, we were on the right track in acceptance of all people. But since then we have gone back several decades. This country is more divisive now then I can ever remember. And it's not just republican v dems - it's race, socio-economic status, glbt, religion. It makes me want to cry.

btw - I'm pretty sure that the person that started that thread you linked to, is a Biden supporter.;)

4. I agree
I find it astounding how the race card will be flung at Biden at every possible occaision. Just because he had the audiacity to look past Anita Hills pigment, and seriously question her timing. they still ignore the fact he voted no to Clarences appointment. or if they do acknowledge that fact. They say he voted no because Thomas is black. :argh:
