3. I just watched Biden on Hardball
It will be on again if you missed it.

Okay, this one was genuinely emotional and I was actually crying.

5. I don't have cable so I'm waiting for it to show up on YouTube or elsewhere...
I'm not surprised Matthews was supportive -- they both hold the same ideals I think.

I can hardly wait to see it -- thanks for the report!

And even though I don't know what the content is yet, I'm so proud of him!

11. Wow - even though you kind of prepared me, this still slapped me hard.
Biden obviously just CARES SO MUCH! He wasn't just angry -- he's heartbroken at what we've done. I can't help but think if I were a parent with a child over there and I was against the war, he'd be the candidate best expressing my outrage and feelings of frustration. My eyes are STILL welling up just thinking about it.

Thanks SO MUCH for the link! I'm going to go watch it again.

10. It was heart-wrenching.
I think he started to say, "My son", but stopped himself. This was when he was referring to not wanting the soldiers dying for nothing.

13. I caught that too.
And after I watched it for the second time - I was thinking that
maybe that is why he was so passionate.

You can be sure Beau is on his mind throughout all of this.

16. OK- That was hard to watch!
I hate what has happened to us and this country and what the so-called Pres has done w/ Iraq. What a disgrace!!! I'm very sad. This crap has got to end.
My husband's father was killed in 'Nam in 1971 (actually was shot down in a dog fight in Cambodia at 21 yrs old) long after it was decided that Vietnam was lost. He died unnecessarily in a war that never should have been fought and died before my husband was even born. My husband grew up w/o a father- and has the scars to prove it.
How many kids out there today are losing thier daddys in this god-forsaken war that never should have even started?? I'm so angry. I live w/ the effects of war in my own home. And I have shed tears for my husband's lack of a childhood and father figure. Or mother figure for that matter for she gave him up. She watched her family die in front of her in a village outside Saigon and was alone until she met my husband's father. He had only 2 months left of his tour. He was going to take her home. To his family. Only he came home in a box- a very small box. And she made it out with her child. Barely.

17. When I start singing my anti-war anti-Bush songs,
I've had people say to me "well it was YOUR generation who spat on the soldiers when they came home from Viet Nam". And I say, but WE realized how wrong we were, and WE learned our lesson! A huge chunk of this country hasn't learned its lesson.

Hugs to your husband, and to you for being such a caring, compassionate wife.

24. Thank you guys.
Do you know that at 12 yrs old I went to D.C. and to The Wall and my mother showed me 2 names on the Wall that she knew? She went to high school w/ them. I was like "ya, Mom, that's great" I was 12 you know? Little did I know that 12 yrs later I would go on a blind date no less w/ this guy named Myoi and at my mom's house she'd ask him if that was his real name and he'd say "no, I'm so and so Jr." My mom went to school w/ his dad! And I grew up 1 town away from my husband all that time. My destiny I believe was before me at The Wall at a whopping 12 yrs old! Fate happens.

29. To really complete this story
my husband was givien up by his mother and was raised by his father's parents. His mother was stuck in Vietnam for almost 2 yrs after my hubby's dad died. She met another GI and he was so moved by her story that he married her to get her out of Vietnam. And he became my husband's stepdad. They got out just in time- the VietCong were killing AmeriAsian children in protest to the women sleeping w/ the American GI's in Saigon and my husband was in grave danger. His mom was able to come to the U.S. through this GI and went to live at the military base w/ him and my husband.
Due to the exceptional amount of trauma she'd been exposed to she couldn't handle raising my husband and called my husband's grandmother in Mass. to come and get him. So she went. My husband was then 2 yrs old.
When he was 5 his mom called again and wanted him back. His grandmother was devastated but once again got on the plane and brought him to her. My husband vivdily recalls that ride and begged his Gram not to leave him. After only a few months his stepfather came home one day to find his wife trying to drown my husband in the bathtub. He called my husband's father's family and told them he has to go back, right now. So once again he got shuffled back to Mass.
25 yrs later my husband recalled a memory from childhood that he thought he had a sister but wasn't too sure. He hired a search agency to find her. And find her they did! They also found his mother and 3 other sisters that my husband did not know he even had!!!
In 2002 before we were married he went to CA to see his oldest sister and was reunited w/ his mother as well. It was quite painful for him. And for a few weeks I thought he was going to leave me and go to CA. Only having a son that was 5 yrs old from his first marriage stopped him from leaving.
Now he has a wonderful relationship w/ his sister and has learned that his mother had abandoned ALL her children and they all raised themselves essentially. His mom didn't come to our wedding in '04 because of the guilt but that was ok cuz his Gram was really his Mom. It was better that way.
My husband has now finally some closure on his past and is no longer angry. He is one of the most remarkable men I have ever met and a even more remarkable father. He took the right road at that intersection in life- the one where adversity makes you stronger. And is a better man for it.

Edited on Wed Sep-12-07 11:14 AM by 48percenter
just more layers there to him. I have been more impressed each time I see him.

Even though sometimes Joe has foot in mouth disease, he's pretty smart and speaks very well.

28. Good to see you here!
What Biden says about his gaffes is that he refuses to be scripted and putting his foot in his mouth is
going to happen.

More honesty from Biden.

That's one of the things I like about Biden. When you watch him at campaign events (on c-span), he really talks to the people.
Looks them in the eye when he answers their questions. When I watch other candidates - they spew talking points - even watched one brush off a little old man who was asking some tough questions. Biden is not afraid to tell people like that "I'm not sure, I'll have to look into that".

Part of being a Biden supporter is holding your breath that he doesn't say the wrong thing.... and when he does - hoping nobody notices ;)

26. It was a wonderful
and very emotional appearance. Somehow it is now linked in my mind with the news today that 2 of the 7 NCOs that wrote the NYT op-ed mentioned by Hagel yesterday have been killed two days ago. When will this overwhelming sadness end?
