I have no complaints on John Edwards' performance tonight but felt also
that your Mr. Biden did the best he's done to greater effect tonight.

I hope more voters were watching this time than for the summer debates.

A real nice job by the nation's leading foreign policy expert, and I say congrats to Joe Biden and his loyal supporters here on DU.

1. Hey OC! But according to msnbc Hillary won!
Was it just my imagination or did Edwards receive the least amount of time?

2. Hillary!? Who's that? Is there somebody named that running for president?!
You'd think the media would have covered it by now...

______________

Seriously, I felt Biden did hiimself proud. Voters need to see that there are people in the Senate with clear minds and good hearts -- PLUS the dazzling resume.

I was real proud of Biden tonight.

6. I was so proud of him how he handled the question on Moveon.
After all of the bs the media has put us thru.

Edwards and Biden consistently outshine everyone in the debates.

7. On Biden's ability with the press -- I think he's pretty greatly underrated.
I think the last person of his range to enjoy genuinely excellent relations with the press was John Kennedy.

Biden, IMO, has a lot of that magic Kennedy touch.

9. From your mouth to the voters ears -
Msnbc is declaring Edwards the winner for going after Hillary and his bringing the country together.

Not a word about Biden!

11. On one of the polls tonight here on DU -- of al places! -- Biden got more
votes than I've ever seen him get on a DU exercise.

And on many individual comments, he's won some respect.

I think he's on the way up.

Course I am prejudice. But, Edwards ran circles around Hillary. This was a fun debate.

20. I think you could be right
He just needs to be heard by more people. So many voters are undecided and aren't really sure of the frontrunners.

21. Some of the reports coming in from Iowa suggest he's making some headway.
I don't know how things stand with him and fundraising, but I think if he can get that component cranked up the rest is going to fall into place.

There are moms and dads and sisters and brothers and friends and neighbors of our troops in Iraq who might lend a very attentive ear to a man like Biden, who's actually done some thinking about our standing in the world, compared say with Dubya, who can barely feed himself, and then hear in Biden's remarks the vision of an adept.

We could use an adept running our foreign policy right now.

I think some -- maybe a lot -- of those moms and dads and sisters and so on will go home with a notion to commit to a Biden candidacy.

23. And Friday and today he got some press that money
can't buy. For people who are just discovering Biden, he is a fresh, new voice and he inspires confidence. I really believe that voters are more perceptive this time, as the stakes are so grave. Could be wishful thinking, but I think we are growing up as a nation. Sadly it took a disaster in the White House to make it happen.

24. I think that's right-on. It took many more years for the nation to turn
against the government's war in SE Asia in the 60s and 70s.

With Bush's Iraq war, public disaffection has been much swifter and much more harsh.

The trendlines favor Democrats over Republicans as a result (generally) and IMO that climate favors a foreign policy expert like Biden over the current leader of the pack.

3. It felt like both Edwards and Biden didn't get much time
But I could be wrong. I thought Dennis was absolutely awful - lower the drinking age to 18 and voting to 16?

Meanwhile, the after show indicated once again that Biden is Matthews new pal! He just can't say enough good things about the guy.

4. I thought it was Biden's best debate performance thus far
Dodd was quite good as well. Richardson? Not so much. Hillary was smooth, but a lot of none-answers. Russert was the best moderator so far and the questions were much better than in previous debates.

8. hi, tsegat01. Dodd always seems to hold his own, and he never slobbers
after attention.

He just stands his ground and gets it done.

I like him.

But in truth, I think he's running for Secretary of Commerce.

10. He is very solid and consistent
I don't sense any evasiveness there. He definitely would be an asset in the next administration and you could be right about Secretary of Commerce.

Hillary did that laugh again. She is really being coached to be more human, but its coming across as scripted spontaneity.

Compared to other polls on DU for months at a time, this one represents something of a sea change.

19. Hi, Gateley. For me Joe Biden is right up there with Edwards. I like the
talents and energies of Senator Obama also (and don't understand the bile hurled at him on DU, but then I don't understand the bile hurled at John Kerry either).

I'm less thrilled with Senator Clinton but would honor fellow Democrats' judgement if she becomes our nominee.

But in the primaries, I'm going to pass on Sen. Clinton.

26. Wait! Don't go to bed yet -- I just received an e-mail from the Babylonian
society -- that's the group of young Iraqis who were hopeful this plan would pass.

I'd e-mailed them this morning to let them know that it was successful and passed along all our best wishes, and I just received this response:

Dear Ms. Ellen,

This is a great day in the history of Iraq. For the first time there's a clear understanding among Senators in regard to the conflict in Iraq. It is wrong to compare the partitions of the former British colonies to this plan. America is not a colonizer and that's why partitioning Bosnia the U.S. supervised was a big success. Senator Biden realized this fact and acted upon it. It was sad to know that Senator Obama and Senator McCain did not vote but at least they did not reject the amendment. This plan brought both Democrats and Republicans together and it will bring hope to the different groups in Iraq.
Thank you so much for writing to us. It is overwhelming to know that there are many Americans who support this plan to solve the endless problems of Iraq.

All the best,
Babylonian Society

28. I will post tomorrow and have you all standing by to K&R. I also want to
get it to Joe so he can share it with the others who voted with him and rub it in the faces of those who didn't. Maybe we could even get him to e-mail them!!

I'll get their permission first of course.

The funny thing is that when I sent the e-mail it was returned saying 'undeliverable'. I was convinced the NSA had confiscated it, but apparently it went through. It must have passed muster with our vigilant protectors.

Thanks for staying up to read this -- I can't believe how excited I am.

and another DU'er Biden supporter has posted two comments. This is very exciting and it is so nice to know how Iraqis feel. They are so often marginalized in the U.S. and it really pisses me off.

Okay, I'm going to bed! Thank you for this. What a great way to end a super day.
