"French President Congratulates Chavez, Praises Venezuelan Democracy

February 24th 2009, by Erik Sperling - Venezuelanalysis.com

February 23, 2009 (venezuelanalysis.com)-- The president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, sent a letter to his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez last week, congratulating him on the victory of a constitutional referendum allowing him to run for re-election in 2012.

The referendum was “characterized by strong participation that demonstrates, yet again, the vitality of democracy in Venezuela,” Sarkozy wrote.

“I hope the results will allow you to continue the policies you have implemented in the last ten years,” Sarkozy continued, “especially those improving social justice and reducing inequality in your country.”

He also expressed his desire that the dialogue and cooperation between the two countries would “further strengthen and develop in the future,” noting the ten existing agreements between them.

Chavez supporters celebrated last week after winning the electoral contest with 54.9 percent of the vote. Voter turnout was close to 70 percent."

2. Impressive! Sarkozy knows a number of things, for instance, how hard Chavez worked
to get Ingred Betancourt and other Colombian hostages released, and what treachery was visited upon Chavez by the Bushwhacks and the Colombian fascists during that period, and also, how FAIR Chavez has been in his dealings with multinational oil companies (France's Total is one of them). Chavez asked nothing more than that the Venezuelan government, on behalf of the Venezuelan people, have a controlling interest in the state oil company, and that profit-sharing change from the UNFAIR 10/90 formula, favoring the multinationals, to the fair and proper 60/40, favoring the people of Venezuela.

In French terms, Sarkozy is something of a conservative, but he also has the independent streak of all French presidents since Charles De Gaulle. He speaks the truth about Chavez and Venezuelan democracy, not just because he has business dealings with him, but because Europeans see things differently than our corporations (i.e., our government). They have universal health care in France--really good care--for instance. Sarkovy accepts this as decent and a human right, and sees that this is where Venezuela is heading--toward decency and human rights.

3. Tremendous message from this French President. Couldn't get more positive than this.
Truly didn't know he had it in him.

What good news. It's a very friendly outreach from France.

Thank you, magbana.
