Doctor and Coord. of Social Movements, Luther Castillo, Life has been threatened"
Edited on Mon Jul-06-09 09:46 PM by magbana
If you listened to Telesur throughout the coup period, Luther Castillo provided frequent commentary. And with a gov't. whose FM Enrique Ortez says racist things about Obama, how long do you think Luther can last -- he's black.

"Under Threat is the Life of Honduran Activist Luther Castillo
MATANZAS, Cuba, Jul 6 (acn) Luther Castillo, a young doctor and coordinator of social movements in Honduras, is included in a blacklist of the Honduran army and we fear for his life, a young Honduran student in Cuba told ACN news agency.

If Luther is captured and resists the arrest, the military have orders to shoot him, the last we heard from him was a phone call to his sister Tania, who he requested, in her garifuna language, not to tell names since phone communications were being intercepted by coup perpetrators, she assured.

Yiny, a student in her last year of dentistry at the Medical Sciences University in this city, preferred not to have her name mentioned because she feared that killers with the de facto government in Honduras could attack her relatives and she reiterated her support for President Manuel Zelaya.

I am so moved, commented Yini, after watching the severe repression against demonstrators when they were waiting for Zelaya at the airport. This can not be happening in my country, Zelaya was elected by us, and the international community supports us, said the young student.

She explained that in the next few days she will conclude her studies in Cuba and would like to go back to her country to offer her services to her people, but she said airports are closed.

At the same time of this denunciation, the Cuban website Cubadebate published a communiqué about the Honduran Social Movements promoting a solidarity campaign against the dangers pending on Doctor Luther Castillos life."

1. As another poster would say, if Hondurans want death squads, so be it.

But then, that's the voice of the Honduran elites who have quite a bloody track record when it comes to human rights abuses and murder.

3. Castillo Graduated from the Latin American School of Medicine in Cuba and was
featured in the film, "Salud!" http://www.saludthefilm.net/ns/luther.html

I'm sure he is a very well-known person in Honduras and his connection to Cuba cannot help with these storm troopers.
