acnnews 12 Father of Honduran Repression Victim Accuses Retired Military of Killing his Son HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 7 (acn) Relatives of a 19-year-old youth killed last Sunday in Honduras while he was waiting for the arrival of the constitutional president of his country, Manuel Zelaya, accused retired military and counselor of the de facto regime Billy Joya, who has a long record of human rights violations, of the crime. The father of Isis Obed Murillo told Venezolana de Television about the anguish he lived during the demonstration and his repudiation of the repression carried out by the army. “It was all caused by the army. They started to show us tear gas bombs and shouted that they (the bombs) were to kill us, and that no one would walk out alive,” said Obed Murillo’s father. “We started to run and I saw Joya dressed in a green uniform. He was calling others to surround him with their shields, he ducked, set in the shooting position, aimed and shot only once,” said Murrillo. He added that the group of protesters threw themselves to the ground when they saw the military in the shooting position and it was then that he picked up a bullet case from the ground without knowing that it was part of the bullet that had killed his own son. “There was not a shootout, it was one sniper who shot to kill, because the bullet hit Obed right in the neck,” explained the father. Joya used to coordinate and lead tortures and murders in Honduras during the 1980’s and his repressive behavior was denounced several times by human rights and popular organizations. The retired military is still charged with the direct participation in at least 16 crimes and special operations that left more than ten people dead or tortured in the Central American country, according to Venezolana de Televisión.
