BOGOTA, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Two Colombian paupers died in an explosion in the southwestern city of Cali on Saturday, authorities said.
One pauper opened a bag given by strangers that was supposed to be filled with food when an artificial explosive was detonated, Eliana Salamanca, secretary of the Cali government, was quoted as saying by Colombian media.
The pauper and one of his fellows were killed on the spot, and another fellow pauper was injured by the explosive wave.
Witnesses said several people on a motorcycle stopped in front of the victim and gave him the bag, which they said was full of food. The man believed them and opened it.
Tobias Ayala, a human rights activist in Cali, said the two deaths might be the result of the so-called "social cleaning." On Friday, two other paupers were killed around Cali.
