Chavez Denounces New Holy Hound-Pack

Caracas, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, denounced today in his Sunday column the exi9stence of a new "holy hound-pack" put together to do away with the progressive movement in Latin America.

Under the title "Stormy July" the Executive sustains that "the continent's burgeoisies, using their barbaric institutions, their immoral media, their study centers, their inorganic intellectuals with no soul, have created a new ghost."

The new ghost -indicates the Venezuelan president- has been unleashed throughout the continent and now they don't call it communism or even socialism, instead they call it Chavism.

The supposed menace "now, more recently has been the basis to topple by a brutal coup d'Etat Honduras President Jose Manuel Zelaya," he affirmed.

Behind the big operation -he said- there can be no other hand than that of yankee imperialism and its enormous legion of burgeoise sects formed by the most flourished "pitiyanquismo."

"What has been rising strongly in Latin America and the Cariubbean is not a ghost, fortunately," he explained.

According to Chavez it is a powerful movement resulting from that awakening collective Lazarus who are the peoples of this continent.

"What is really true is that the epicenter of these teluric forces has Venezuela as its nest, as its spring and volcano," he sentenced.

1. Excuse me folks but "holy hound-pack" does not do justice to what Chavez meant

Caracas, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, denounced today in his Sunday column the existence of a new "holy hound-pack" put together to do away with the progressive movement in Latin America.

Not to take away from the main message but the words Chavez used were "una santa jauria."

In formal Spanish, the word "jauria" refers to the dog pack the Brits used when they used to go fox hunting.

But in vernacular Ven. speak, it would mean a pack of mad (or rabid) dogs (or wolves).

As in "an unholy pack of mad dogs," not a "holy hound-pack."

Another synonym in English could be "the dogs of war."

2. Exactly and he's right. There seems to be a continent wide program

in place to turn back the democratic gains we've seen in the last decade.

MANAGUA, Nicaragua -- For months, the reports percolated in Washington and other capitals. Iran was constructing a major beachhead in Nicaragua as part of a diplomatic push into Latin America, featuring huge investment deals, new embassies and even TV programming from the Islamic republic.

"The Iranians are building a huge embassy in Managua," Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton warned in May. "And you can only imagine what that's for."

But here in Nicaragua, no one can find any super-embassy.

Nicaraguan reporters scoured the sprawling tropical city in search of the embassy construction site. Nothing. Nicaraguan Chamber of Commerce chief Ernesto Porta laughed and said: "It doesn't exist." Government officials say the U.S. Embassy complex is the only "mega-embassy" in Managua. A U.S. diplomat in Managua conceded: "There is no huge Iranian Embassy being built as far as we can tell."

The mysterious, unseen giant embassy underscores how Iran's expansion into Latin America may be less substantive than some in Washington fear.

Iran's proposed investments in Nicaragua -- for a deep-water port, hydroelectric plants and a tractor factory -- have also failed to materialize, Nicaraguan officials say. At a time when Iran's oil revenue is falling, the same is true of many projects planned for Latin America, according to analysts.

5. Surely she's not that gullible. I always thought she was brighter.

Does this mean we are well advised to assume she intends to push this country all the way back to the 1950's, 60's, 70's, 80's (the good old iron-fisted cold war days when blood flowed freely and often south of our border)? Sure looks like it to me.

Looks like they see the progress in Latin America toward freedom as a problem they mean to correct.

How did we not see this coming? Even Condoleeza Rice would be NO more hawk-like than this Secretary, and that's saying a ton.

6. I always thought Hillary Clinton was one of the most gifted women

we've ever had in our government.

But, her job at State is to forward American "interests" and that means above all, Wall Street. She will do a good job. :(
