Criticism Directed At Support Given Chávez And Cuba

National media reported this weekend that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has twice stated to Chile’s government that the U.S. will not support the re-election in 2010 of Chile’s José Miguel Insulza to head the Organization of American States (OAS).

Insulza, a former Chilean Interior Minister, apparently rubbed the U.S. the wrong way following his leadership role in the OAS’s decision to readmit Cuba to the organization. Cuba was removed from the OAS in 1962 .

The U.S. wanted stricter regulations to be imposed on Cuba to assure greater democracy in the country. Clinton was reportedly unhappy with Insulza’s personal attempts to get Cuba unconditionally reinstated.

Insulza’s position was further undermined by Clinton’s naming Costa Rican President and Nobel Prize winner Óscar Arias as the sole negotiator in the Honduran crisis , ignoring Insulza’s efforts, reported Chile’s conservative media this weekend.

1. Any doubts as to Obama's imperialism?
This is more evidence that Obama Administration intends to re-colonize Latin American, supporting military coups, and getting rid of anyone that does not bend over to America's will. Let's face it, this is Reaganism without Reagan.

Hillary's only experience with Latin America was with the hired help at her big New York home.

The Obama Administration is no friend of ours, and is an enemy of progressive governments in Latin America.

3. "Hillary's only experience with Latin America..."?
"Hillary's only experience with Latin America was with the hired help at her big New York home."

Are you forgetting about Mark Penn, her chief campaign adviser, who was simultaneously a paid agent of the Colombian government?

She may have no more understanding of Latin America than as the employer of Hispanic housekeepers, but she most certainly has an agenda for Latin America, which includes buying whole countries with billions of taxpayer dollars for the corrupt, failed, murderous US "war on drugs," and imposing US global corporate predators, "free trade" and ruinous World Bank/IMF loans on any country where the US can choose the leadership. I have never had any illusions about Hillary Clinton as Sec of State, but I thought--under Obama's influence--she might be more polite about it. The Honduran coup was a rude awakening and portends the end of "polite," I'm afraid.

It will be interesting to see if Chile bends to US will, on the OAS issue, as it did on other matters back a few years with the Bushwhacks in charge. Chile--and its president, Michele Batchelet--finally came around and played a critically important role in fending off the Bushwhack war plot in Bolivia, this last September. The South American left has consolidated alliances and cooperation over the last two years, and has gotten much stronger, for an almost solid South American front against US meddling. And on issues of the sovereignty of Latin American countries, even rightwing governments, such as Colombia and Mexico, have gotten stronger (spurred by the leftists). And the Honduran coup has made virtually everybody angry and worried. I think that Clinton will lose on the Insulza matter, but it may not be her object to win it. It may just be a "divide and conquer" tactic--as we have seen time and again from the Bushwhacks.
