Guatemala to ask Chávez for further information about alleged plot
Western Hemisphere
The Guatemalan government will request from Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez additional information on alleged scheming for a coup against President Álvaro Colom, said on Monday an official source.

Guatemala's Vice-President Rafael Espada commented on Monday during a press conference that they would ask Chávez to provide further information about his warning that the militaries were planning a coup, Efe reported.

Last Friday, Chávez claimed to know about intended coups in Guatemala, Salvador and Nicaragua, similar to the move last June 28th in Honduras, where President Manuel Zelaya was toppled.

"I can attest to a coup attempt in Guatemala" as well as in other Central American countries, said the Venezuelan Head of State.
