Honduran President Received with Honors in Guatemala

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 14 (acn) Honduran constitutional president José Manuel
Zelaya was received on Tuesday in Guatemala by his counterpart Alvaro
Colom with the honors befitting his rank.

After his arrival from Nicaragua, Mel(as he’s known in Honduras)
thanked Colom for the warm reception and for his support of democracy,
after which he affirmed that he will return to occupy the post he was
forcibly ousted from by a coup d´etat on June 28th.

Zelaya said he had arrived “to a country whose president is his friend,
a democratic leader who knows how to defend democracy, and that
Guatemala has shown, throughout history, that it’s against military
uprisings”, the ANSA news agency reports.

During a previous official ceremony, Colom assured that he will not
recognize the de facto Honduran government, because “it would create a
powder keg that threatens all democracies in the continent”.

At the end of the welcoming ceremony, Zelaya went to the Presidential
House, located in the center of the Guatemalan capital, to meet with
Colom in private.

1. In America, Zelaya has to use the back door to the State Department
and he is not allowed to see Obama in the White House. Who is Obama backing in Honduras?

2. The US is only making itself less important in Latin America.
I'm so disappointed. Didn't think it would be a birthday party but hoped for a little better.
