Announcement on Radio Progreso - Golpistas reject point #1
Golpista rejecting point number 1 right now. It was Contreras speaking. Calling Arias complices of other countries who want to put Zeyala in power.

http://www.radioprogresohn.net

Other side demands return of Zeyala. Criticizing a regimen that is now officially
a golpe de estado. They accepted in good faith, in spite of demonstrated intransigence.
As the delegation this dialog with this commission with this regimen is OVER, TODAY,
for their intransigence. But we repeat before the legitimate mediators we'll maintain
ourselves open to actions or efforts of Arias in the next hours.

They are maintaining the government of Zelaya practically in exile. Reaffirming that
they are working for peace and support to the demonstrators. That not another drop of
blood is shed. It's about respect for the constitution. Thanks to the whole world for
the support, our country has been victim of a golpe. We call for dialog and peace.

Thanks to all. Rixi Moncada lawyer.

1. Saying that Arias is almost crying
and this is a tragic moment for the history of the country.

That the Honduran law says people can have arms. They can own up to 5 arms each
and that this looks like civil war. Asking for 72 hours more? Not sure who is
asking.

Saying that Arias is talking with the clowns of the circus not the authors who are elsewhere. The error of Arias was to not invite the people who could resolve the
situation, and the media, the group of the right wing of the US (?), the political
and economic elite who feel threatened.

2. He looked totally down, beaten, almost resigned to a terrible prospect.
I could only pick out some of the words, like "blood" and "arms," but that was enough to understand he was afraid it was going to get very bad, and felt defeated.

3. I heard that quote about the clowns
Edited on Sun Jul-19-09 05:29 PM by rabs

The speaker said the Gorilettis had "sent the clowns and not the owners of the circus."

It was spooky to me that Arias, Nobel Peace Prize winner, is now speaking of a possible civil war and a bloodbath in Honduras.

(edit to add Peace)

4. It is spooky. Maybe the urgency of the situation
will force a response from the OAS.

Honduras cannot handle this alone.

Even had they agreed there was a huge risk of bloodshed and
the security of Zelaya was in doubt.

So it seems to me that an OAS/UN type force is required.

Otherwise I believe there are itchy fingers in Honduras
and emotions are running high enough to create a disaster.

6. Does the OAS do peacekeeping duties?

Can't remember OAS ever participating in peacekeeping in the hemisphere.

As for the UN, it has the Blue Helmets but as far as I know, the UN force only intervenes when hostilities have already broken out, as in a civil war.

The Blue Helmets are in Haiti, but have my doubts there was a full-blown civil war there. Magbana, refresh my memory. Tks.

7. Sounds like they are going to base the resistance on the social and workers
organizations in El Salvador and Nicaragua and not involve
the governments. Energetic but peaceful resistance is the plan
according to Radio Progreso.

The "Frente" began in Tegu but they've had time to organize
in other cities.

Smart move or they'd be called Chavistas, Sandinistas FMLN etc.

8. Ouch. Radio Progreso just went dead.
Right when they were discussing the possible future
need for armed resistance.
