It almost seems impossible anyone would try to force a nation's people to NOT call a coup by its proper term.

People didn't foam at the mouth at the thought, and no one stalked physicians, hoping to kill them.
You know, I think you've got a point I'd never considered. The right-wing started getting really MILITANT during Reagan, whereas they were only a bunch of malignant idiots before that.
