US Solidarity Brigade Arrives in Cuba

HOLGUIN, Cuba, Jul 20 (acn) Close to a hundred US citizens arrived in
Cuba early Monday without Washington’s permission to travel to the
island, in an open challenge to the economic, commercial and financial
blockade of their country against Cuba.
All 98 members of the Venceremos solidarity brigade arrived in
Holguin’s Frank País International Airport, in the eastern region of the
country, from where they headed to the city of Bayamo, in the nearby
province of Granma.
One of the coordinators of the group, Bob Guild, told ACN that the
brigade was proud to be in Cuba again, specially this year when they
Brigade is marking its 40th anniversary and the Cuban Revolution is
celebrating five decades of its triumph.
He said they have never asked for permission to express their
solidarity and support of the Cuban people, and that their visits to
Cuba will always be a challenge to those US laws that affect the
country.
Bob Guild, who has traveled more than 30 times to Cuba, said that the
American brigade will be in Bayamo until July 23rd to carry out
volunteer work and visit places of historic and social interest.
He said after finishing activities in Bayamo, they will head west to
the city of Santa Clara, in central Villa Clara province, and finally
they will complete their program in Havana.
Cuban Friendship Institute’s vice president Basilio Gutierrez
welcomed the group at the airport in Holguin and presented them with a
CD with 13 sang poems written by Ramon Labañino, one of the five Cuban
antiterrorist fighters who are unfairly imprisoned in the US.
“We will always be in favor of Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez,
Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez,” said Bob in
relation to the Cuban revolutionaries who have been held in jail for
more than 10 years.
