Zelaya to Begin Return Journey to Honduras

HAVANA, Cuba, July 23 (acn) Honduran constitutional president Jose Manuel
Zelaya, will begin today his return journey to his country from
Nicaragua, along with his wife and children and a team of international
journalists.

On Wednesday, in Managua, Zelaya announced that he would leave on
Thursday afternoon for Estelí, from where he would travel to Somoto and
Ocotal and, the following day, to the Nicaragua-Honduras border.

Zelaya affirmed that he doesn’t fear for his life, and warned that if
he’s assassinated, the coup perpetrators should be held responsible for
the crime, especially Romeo Vazquez, the head of the Armed Forces.

He held the military responsible for any damage, and added that he will
travel without weapons, peacefully, looking for the nation to return to
peace, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.

The head of state made the decision after the failure of the mediation in
San José with the de facto regime, which –he expressed- totally refuses
his reinstatement, doesn’t recognize the Organization of American States,
and continues in his intransigence, wanting to legalize the coup.

I feel it my duty to get closer to the people this coming weekend. I hope
you can accompany me, Zelaya told the press in Managua.

When asked about the point of entry, he said it could be through
Guasaule, El Espino or Las Manos.

On June 28, Zelaya was kidnapped by a group of soldiers who forcibly sent
him out of the country, to Costa Rica.

A week after that action, on July 5, Zelaya tried to return to Honduras
via Toncontin airport in Tegucigalpa, but the de facto regime prevented
the landing of the aircraft and repressed thousands of demonstrators who
had gone there to welcome their president, as a result of which a young
man died, shot by a sniper.

4. Conference just ended

Zelaya caravan will go to Esteli today. Will be at one of three border crossings either tomorrow or Saturday morning.

Asked that soldiers put down their rifles and not fire on the people.

Eden Pastora (Commandante Zero of Sandinista fame) will accompany him to the border.

Zelaya said he expected his wife and family to be at the border to accompany him.

Said he would go with a "white flag, a flag of peace."

Zelaya meeting with advisors at Honduran Embassy to plan.

Lots of journalists and Honduran citizens will be in the caravan.

5. He does have courage. Hope he will not be harmed. He stands head and shoulders above the criminals
in spirit and character, as well!

Thank you.

Sure hope good will come from this, as well.
