Telesur Reporting Live from one of the border crossings -- the protesters are
trying to get the military to let them through. The Honduran military is lined up about 1 km from the actual border with Nicaragua. Appears to be a huge crowd, but the number of military lined up to prevent the crowd from going further does not seem to be enough soldiers to prevent anything. There are many soldiers along the sides of the road. It would be easy for the crowd to go through but people could be shot from the sides of the road.

Stay tuned.

3. Murderous coups don't need a lot of troops for something like this.
Just a few inexpensive "well placed" bullets. :puke:

4. Just tuned in and Telesur reported one person had been shot.

Man interviewed said it was not known yet if the victims had died or not and that shot had come from armed forces. No other details yet.

7. Thanks, Judi Lynn. The golpista spies in the pro-Zelaya protesters
Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 01:30 PM by magbana
are doing a very good job. They were able to warn the military at what time Zelaya would finish up his press conf, slap on the curfew, and if the people move, Zelaya will be out there in the open. Telesur said that after the press conf. it would take only 15 minutes to get to the Las Manos border crossing.

I don't think the people will move and then some real head cracking (and much worse will start in earnest).

8. Thanks for your comments. They had that conference approximately 20 km. from the border,
I think I heard.

Shouldn't take them long to get there.

9. It sounds as if the people waiting at the border are singing and chanting.
Can anyone tell if the Zelaya convoy is at the border now?

Honduras imposes daytime curfew for border region

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — Honduras’ coup-installed government has ordered people off the streets along its border with Nicaragua as the country’s deposed president prepares to return home.

The administration of Roberto Micheletti says all people must stay indoors starting at noon Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday “to keep the peace.”

The restriction applies only to the region along its border with Nicaragua, where ousted President Manuel Zelaya has set up a base to plan an attempt to return home and reclaim the presidency. He was overthrown in a July 28 coup.

The rest of Honduras is under a curfew running from midnight to 4:30 a.m. daily.

The government announced the measure in a national broadcast Friday.
