US Firm Backs Honduran Putschists

Tegucigalpa, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) US security firm Inter-Con is supporting the coup in Honduras by providing its agents to the Army, laid off workers of the company denounced on Thursday.

President of proscribed Inter-Con Employee Association, Jose Alfredo Duarte, explained that he was laid off yesterday along with another 50 employees for refusing to support the putschists.

Four days ago, the man from the US told us that we would be lent to the Army. I told him that I was not for the coup and he threatened me with lay off, Duarte told local Radio Globo station.

We are former Army people, he said, while explaining that in his case he left the Army in disagreement because of poor handling of promotions by Army Chief of General Staff, Gen. Romeo Vazquez.

Duarte explained that the security company, with 1,600 employees, gives its services to the US Embassy and companies, including Televicentro TV network, which supports the coup of June 28.

He added that they will file a complaint before the authorities because the US bosses refuse to pay them the benefits they are entitled to.

He explained that they will file their complaint before the Labor Ministry, currently occupied by the employees as part of a national strike by organizations grouped by the National Front against the Coup.

A promotional bulletin says that "Inter-Con is a private security company in the national market, affiliated with the US Inter-con Security Systems, Inc, a leading international firm for 30 years."
