Facebook opposition not expected to make much impact in Venezuela

Commenting on the 'No More Chavez' Facebook and twitter campaign against him, President Chavez calls it stupid and he says they can go and march against Chavez but it is not Chavez they're marching against, it is peoples. The President made the remarks during a visit to Syria.
The campaign taken up by opponents of the President was started by a group of Colombians protesting Venezuela's foreign policy and wanting to repeat their success in organizing a rally against the guerrillas. Campaign organisers had hoped to congregate in Bogota's main square for a massive show but local government has denied them use of the square because of another activity already planned.

As the title suggests, it would appear that the main object of Venezuelans joining the Colombian campaign opposing Chavez is to vent their spleen in personal hate attacks against Chavez, reminiscent of April 2002 in the lead up to the coup.

Although many opposition leaders no longer go into a frenzy about Chavez himself and prefer to target government deficiencies, the same cannot be said for many of their followers, especially in younger bracket.

During his trip to Libya, the President had announced that he would engage the opposition in Internet warfare but the first attempt to organise a counter-offensive independent of the pro-government party structure has had difficulty getting off the ground.

A praiseworthy effort by lawyer and researcher, Eva Golinger has not found echo abroad in many of the embassies and consulates, apart from the Venezuelan Embassy in France, which, with the Bolivarian Circles, has organized a series a series of events today in Paris ending with a demonstration supporting the peace initiative and Latin American integration.

Golinger has stated that the "No More Chavez" campaign incites assassination, hatred and destabilisation. The 'Road to Peace' campaign launched by Golinger and friends as an answer to the 'No Chavez' group will go ahead in Caracas with a rally of support outside The Yellow House (Foreign Affairs Ministry) at 9.00 a.m. and at Venezuelan embassies in several countries, including Colombia. The motive for the campaign, Golinger reasons, lies in the escalation of an imperial offensive in the region.
